Wanted: MZ Baghira 660 Carbs

Postby SparkyB » Wed Jul 28, 2021 6:47 am

Hi,
I am recommisioning/modifying an Baghira.

I have had the carbs out and cleaned them (twice) but they have a few issues.
First is the drain screw in the float bowl does not seal, so petrol pours out.
I have fitted a hose to that which is useful as it shows the float level, but need something more permanent.
The second is that although the float chamber looks full, the bike seems like it's out of fuel.
Incidentally runs better off the side stand, but dies when I open the throttle.

So starting to wonder if another set of carbs would be a better starting point.

Also has anyone fitted the cheap Chinese Raptor Carbs?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wingsmoto-Carb ... 9497&psc=1

From the pictures they appear to have 2 carbs the same size and wondered if they can be adapted to fit?

Any suggestions would be great.

Cheers
Mark

Hi.

How about adding an `O` ring to the end of the float bowl drain screw?
Have the got the float height set correctly?
Have you cleaned out the hidden fuel filter? Have a read thru this if not - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10435&hilit=+hidden+filter.

Cheers

Hi,
read through all the posts I could find.

It has no gauze filter under the float valve (was hoping that was the issue).

the drain screw has an O-ring but it is not leaking past that. The pointy end of the screw does not close the drain. Not sure if the seat in the bowl is damaged or it has the wrong screw and it doesn't go in far enough. Was like this when I bought it.

The float height looks right (near the top of the bowl near the gasket), but have not done an accurate measure.

As the Carbs are an unknown and were mentioned in the eBay ad. ."..as needing adjustment".
I thought it might be an idea to start from a "working" state rather than second guessing what someone else had done.

I have already sorted all the connectors (which weren't connecting) Fuses (which also were randomly connecting) throttle cables(which were sticking) so Carbs are next.
