2001 Traveller for sale $900 - Damaged

Postby Fluffy_Dog_1018 » Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:55 pm

It saddens me to say that I dropped my perfect 01 Traveller :( . I was on the brakes (too hard) and slid on a slick manhole cover. Went down at probably 10 MPH. Right now I do not have time to repair and am offering it to the board members before I put it on eBay. Bike is located in Yardley PA which is 1/2 hour NE of Philadelphia PA and 1 hour SW of NYC. I rode the bike home after the drop so it is ride-able but it is missing the right mirror. I would trailer it if any distance. Pics attached before and after. Here is a rundown on the damage as I see it....

Right mirror (head is gone)
Right turn signal (broken but functional)
Upper fairing (cracked at mirror and turn signal stalk)
Windscreen (cracked but functional)
Lower left fairing (rash near clutch area)
Brake lever and brake pedal (rash at tip)
Front fork at axle (rash at tip)
Rear right bag (light rash)

Recent work
Complete fluids (oil, coolant, f/r brake)
New front brake pads
Rebuilt carbs.
Runs great
Title is clear
Miles 14,600

Face to face cash deal. I will not ship (but you may arrange for your shipper to pick up after cash is exchanged).
PM if interested.

OK thanks to you all and some local MZ zealots :-D I am going to fix this bike. Seriously thanks for the support.

Only pieces I need to source are the mirrors and turn signals. Since I will be reparing and painting the upper fairing anyway I was thinking of plugging the holes for the signal stalks and getting a pair of mirrors with the signals built in. Anyone go this route with a Traveller or replace Traveller mirrors in general? I was hoping the bolts and spacing might be a pretty common setup? I will also need to repair the windscreen and was thinking of painting it to match the faring or going gloss black... any comments?

Will take pics and document the work.

Check on ebay for mirrors, the spacing is fairly common...I am using some carbon look mirrors for a Yamaha on my Skorpion...works well..
You can find some with signals on there too...henrib (hb7) is a Ducati mirror guy,and may be able to assist...

You can replace the screen with something better.

Members, thanks for all your suggestions and mostly for "talking me down" from the ledge I was on earlier in the week. Have the Traveller all disassembled and I am surprised how tough this little bike is. Sourced OEM mirror and turn signal (great). Only other piece I could use is the screen and since it only has a couple inch long cracks... I just taped it up for now. If anyone is looking to get rid of one shoot me a note :-) . I see that Gustaffson has a couple choices for $125 and Skidmarx for what I estimate will be $90. Right now I am tapped out but my birthday is coming up!

More to come.

Happy to report the bike is back on the road. Here is a partial list of what I did and some pics.

Starting at the front...

Filed rash marks off of lower front fork leg. Took 10 minutes and results are not half bad.

Replaced mirror and turn signal with used/new ones at a cost of $65... perfect.

I put a piece of metal tape over the crack in the windscreen just cause I can't afford a new one at the moment. Gustafson Plastics sells them in the States for around $100 in a ton of colors. Plus the old windscreen serves as a reminder to take it easy!

Glued broken fairing pieces back together with Loctite 2 part epoxy for plastic. I experimented with a couple of glues and this seemed to work best. I also laid a bit of fiberglass fabric on the back side of the repair for some strength. It turned out solid as a rock.

Filled in minor fairing imperfections with bondo and spot primed with Fusion plastic primer (rattle can). Then gave upper and lower fairing to local body man to paint. He did a great job for $150 and if anyone needs the paint codes he used let me know. I did give him the original paint codes but he could not make them work. Ended up using a Toyota paint that was a very close match (close enough for me at least).

Sanded and Painted the lid of the Hepco & Becker case with Fusion Satin Black plastic paint. I tried the gloss and satin and satin was the best match. Also put a couple Hella 60mm stick on reflectors over the HB logos for some added visibility (they were $1 each on Amazon and a perfect fit).

So total repair bill was under $250 which was pretty cheap considering the damage. This is one tough little bike.

Here are a couple of photos.

So at this point is the unit still available? What price?

Let me know, always wanted a MZ for sentimental reasons.
