New to Forum (kinda long)

Postby nikitino » Mon May 26, 2008 9:51 pm

Hello, my name is Nik and i'm new to this forum....very glad i found you guys (and gals). I recently picked up a 1995 Saxon 500 Country and I love this thing. I upgraded to this from a 1998 Yamaha TW200 which was kind of a cool bike itself but i wanted something with longer range and more power. I got the 500 Country on Ebay from this 82 yr old guy that was selling it only because he recently broke his hip and couldn't get on it so easily any more though he got a new scooter and is still riding.....this old codger had a placque from BMW recognizing him for 100,000 miles of riding and he said he was supposed to have another one that they never sent him. Anwyay, the guy had been riding for like 60 yrs and had been all over the place including Mexico a bunch of times. To top it off, he was a retired Honda motorcycle mechanic and I'm pretty sure he took excellent care of the MZ. Bike has 18,xxx km's and is in excellent shape. Only small problem which i was reading on here that someone else had too is a slight oil leak right where the clutch cable connects to the engine case. (Rotax) I think somebody said there is supposed to be a rubber o-ring here and if so, mine is missing......not sure how to put one on if i could even order one. I think somebody else was talking about trying some plumbers silicone or something to stop the leak here and it looked like the old guy had tried this as well but it's kind of coming off......I wonder if something else like this would work. Any suggestions appreciated......Anyway hello to all and by the way I live in southeast Missouri kinda near St Louis (U.S.) so if anyone around here wants to go for a ride sometime, just let me know (had the bike out today with my buddy who has an '81 Virago but he can't get off road too much).....Bye for now and you will probably be hearing from me with maintenance questions soon.....Oh, one other thing, sometimes when i haven't been on the bike for a few days, and i turn the fuel to ON to get ready to start it, gas starts leaking from the carb (kind of a lot too). I have already replaced the gasket that connects the lower part to the upper part (bing carb) so don't know what could be causing this...Any ideas? It's not that big a deal and stops leaking once i fire up the engine but i know it's not supposed to do this.....Once again, glad i found you all.....another good site is Adventurerider.com for those dual sport aficianodos....also, will try to post pic...Adios, Nik
