New 4NN engine owner (attached to non MZ)

Postby Alg » Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:33 pm

Hi all.
I've just bought an 660cc 4NN lump that has a non MZ bike surrounding it.
The bike's a Suzuki Goose originally fitted with a 350cc engine.
In original form it weighs around 145kgs and has upside down forks as standard. This one's had some rearsets made and has also been fitted with the single side swing-arm from a Honda nc.
It runs (so I've been told) but I need to buy and fit a radiator and fan (does it definitely need the fan?)buy and fit a battery, fit the supplied headers and find a can set up I like.
One thing I've already discovered is that (without the engine running) pulling the clutch in doesn't disengage the gears. It feels fine at the lever but just doesn't disengage. Any idea anyone?

Here are some quite poor pics of the bike

should work for you but you will have fun at mot inspection unless the inspector knows you

as for the clutch most bikes with a wet clutch have a problem with the clutch plates sticking
together when they set for a while
and getting the motor oil hot in neutral and then trying to shift in 1st gear to break it loose
if its been a long set you may be best to take the cover off and take the clutch basket apart
and clean up the clutch plates

Thanks David. I figured maybe they might be stuck but thought I'd see if there was a common known fault I could be looking at.
I've already been searching this forum for that and other stuff and expect I'll spend much more time doing so.

Yes you do need the fan, as they are thermostaticly controlled and operate when the engine is in danger of overheating. Usually on a hot day, when your stuck in traffic.

There's the 4NN sitting nicely in the Goose frame. It runs just beautifully and I can't wait to get it on the road.
Off for MOT either this weekend or next week after replacing the waterpump. There's a clicking noise from the front end as I wheel the bike around but it's not always when the bike is rolling forward or backwards. I'm going to check the speedo drive is correctly assembled. I'll have to sort that tomorrow. Then insurance, then tax, then fun.
Some pics:
I realise there's a hose off the waterpump.
