LED lights

Has any one tried one of those LED 1157 tail lights yet.
Last week on a trip to up state NY I went thru 2 tail light bulbs.

I have been using these LED lights for a couple of years now on various bikes. The bulbs certainly are bright and have a good long life. The only issue is that because they emit a red light, which passes through the lens more easily and helps to make it brighter, they do not light up the number plate very well. This is unles you either have a sepaprate number plate light or buy the new version of Stop/Tail light bulb that has white LED's mounted around the outside of the bulb. Ok on my Guzzi but not my ETZ, due to the bulb orientation on the MZ being in the vertical plane.

I had this problem when I converted to rear-light LED last year. I found, in a bike shop near me, a stick-on white LED array that simply tapped into the rear supply and could be positioned behind the rear lampholder to illuminate the licence plate.

Fitting = 15 minutes

I got the fellas in our electronics workshop to make a board with an array of 52(1/3 for tail-2/3 for stop)super bright red LEDS and a couple of whites for the numberplate.No excuse from tailgaters who say 'I didn't see brake light'.Well worth the effort.

Heh heh heh! I have this mental picture of a rearward-pointing 52-beam laser array, designed to instantly fry the retinas of any moron foolish enough to try and monster you on the open road.

52 LEDs sure would remove the "I didn't see him in the dark Officer ...." defence!

I've been using the white type in my bikes for a number of years, with no problem. I would suggest that you fit a blocking diode into the side light circuit to prevent the front side light from flashing on when you brake. This of course only applies to those parts of the world where you are allowed to turn your lights off.

Nice to hear your views. Even I an huge fan of LED lights
