Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I am hoping for support/ information as I get my MZ motorcycles back on the road. It's about time. I've had these bikes for about 25-30 years and have done practically nothing with them. As they are now "classics" rather than the weird, quirky (Earles forks, leading-link - for god's sake) old hacks I originally bought, I think it's about time I gave them the attention they deserve
First is a 1973 (?) ES250/2 Trophy, complete (almost), a bit rusty, and a good runner before I took the carb off for cleaning. A couple of minor bits to get and a general tidy up.
Second is a ETS250 Sport (can't remember the year offhand, but certainly early 70s). I bought it as donor for the ES but it was too good to just strip for parts. It's pretty much complete and very low milage. I think it dumped the previous owner off the back onto his arse never to be ridden again. Probably because of all the raw power it has. I can't remember if I ever got it running. Again, pretty clean and complete.
As I got these bikes in the 1980s I think it's not in good taste to think about how little I paid for them. I remember around that time I refused a Suzuki two-stroke triple (GT380, I think) from a mate for £5. They're classics too now, I understand, with prices to match. Damn.
I also have other bikes to renew for the road, but not for this forum. A 1975 (?? - "M" reg import from Italy) Laverda SF1 750 (my personal favourite), a 1975 BMW R90S (Conan the Bavarian - brutal, fast and so much fun), a 1970 Aermacchi HD 350 Sprint (small, light, and loud, loud, loud!!), and a 1954 BSA B31 (rescued from a hedge; running on the second kick - they don't make them like that anymore. Leaks like a sieve, though.)
Out with the spanners!
