Found this forum while struggling to get my MZ Baghira back on the road. Had it 4 weeks, but only managed to ride it for 4 days (but did get 700 miles in before it broke down).

Read some of the threads, some useful info there. Think I will be going through all the connectors to try and get to the root of the problem... no spark at the spark plug. Breakdown man found power ok to the coil, but not out of it, so its taken this long to get hold of a new coil. But, still not working. So will be going right through it to check all the connections I can.

A real novice when it comes to working on bikes, and a novice rider - only been riding 2 yrs, but have crammed a few thousand miles in (must be nearly 30k now). Bikes are my first choice for transport, only use the car if I really have to, rain or shine (and it's been more rain these last few months). Kids are growing up now, so they can walk

So far I've owned a Honda CB500, CBF600s (both sold) and now have a CBR600FM (91) and my MZ Baghira. Best 700 miles I have done yet, will be so glad to get it back on the road again. So far I've only learned to do a basic service, carb balancing, brake pads and chain and sprockets... getting there slowly. Now I think I'm in the electrical learning curve... just about mastered the multimeter - so be patient with me

Welcome to the forum.
I find electrickery gremlins are a real pain to sort out, no doubt because i dont really know what I'm doing !!! I much prefer to 'see' something working if I need to fix it.

Agree with you there, Garf. Much easier to see if something physical is broken... electricity is the bane of my life. Do alot of electronics, now trying to transfer my skills to the bike. Getting some spare wire, connectors, heatshrink etc from work, and a multimeter, and will just work through it bit by bit. Hopefully stumble over where the bad connection is, if thats the problem. At least if thats done I may discover if any components are duff if the wiring and connections are fine. Got a very long run to the Lake District up north in just over a week... so really need to get this sorted. Will hand over to the bike shop on Wed if I havent succeeded, they are pretty good and may have saved them some time if I have already checked a fair bit. (dont like giving in but time is pressing)

Hi Sue, and welcome aboard! It's good to hear from a fellow female once in a while! And GREAT that you're not afraid to get in there where the mucky stuff is! (ooh err, please don't take that the wrong way). I'm based in St Albans, Herts, and mostly ride a Skorpion Traveller, but I'm rebuilding a motley collection of ETZ 2-strokes of various sizes, so will be discovering lots of new things in the near future (see blog, link below!)

Hope you get the electrical gremlin sorted. I'm with everyone else on this thread so far - I hate electrical problems. Especially intermittent ones. At least since you've simply got no spark you're not chasing a fault around that only sometimes does it...! I never got into the electrics on my Baggy when I had it (it was too new), so I'm afraid I can't offer any really useful advice apart from: take the spark plug off and see if you've got a spark at the end of the HT lead - it could be just a dodgy spark plug. It's not very likely but I got caught out by that one once!

Found part of the problem! Got the bike back from the bike shop last night... after they found over 20 breaks in one wire! Looks like a really bad case of corrosion on just about every electrical wire and connector on the bike. Only had it back an hour and it went again! Was fun for that hour enjoying the twisties again... it's been nearly 4 weeks since I rode it, and now miss it even more! Off to recover it again and start over. Decided to do something about it - not sure what, could do with a complete new loom I think!
Will post up in the tech bit for some advice I think

i dont ride anymore, worst luck, my sons just bought his first bike, an Mz RT 125 , its great , fairly big for a 125....my last bike a few years was a Kawasaki Z750 but due to ill health, im just my sons mechanic
Theres nothing for Mz bikes around here in south wales, had to get parts from grahams motorcycles down in somerset, no dealers close by, no clubs, no mz`s full stop to be honest, bummer huh! Guess ill just stay a grease monkey!

Sorry to hear you dont ride anymore Hugh. Wales does seem a little low on MZ's, doesnt help with me taking one away from Wales too, bought mine off a chap in Merthyr Tydfil Did notice 2 Baggis for sale in a bike shop not far from his, they've been up for sale a while and dont seem to be selling. Your sons are very lucky to have you looking after their bikes
