MZ and the future

Well its all over the UK motorcycle press, the Malaysian investors have pulled the plug on MZ and its being wound down.
Dam thats bad news

I'm not so sure that's all bad Keith. From my limited experience of the MZ marque (one of the 250's in the 1980's and now a Skorpion) there are 2 types of owner.
1. The guy who find a cheapo smoker and rides it until it's knackered - then moves on for another bargain ....
2. The bloke who finds an unusual bike and who decides to find out more about it, how to fix it, how to restore it.

I can remember back when every cafe cowboy in the UK had an AJS or a Matchless or a BSA - they were almost 'worthless' as a result. Now? They're priceless.

IMHO German stuff tends to be very well made, and East German stuff tends to be big and durable (by and large). I have a Skorpion (a proud owner of 1 month) and from what I can see (A Japanese pedigree engine, parts that come from other marques .....) folks that can wield a welder and a lathe - engineers like thee and me - will do rather well in the long term.

I offer you M und Z - The German antwort to Triumph/AJS/Norton! :wink:

I guess I'm a bit insulated from all this, as a 2-smoke owner & restorer, and rider of a remarkably resilient and reliable Skorpion - I don't have to worry about warranty issues or backup etc. As you say Linegeist, parts from plenty of Japanese bikes fit the Skorpion and for now there's still availability (mostly from Germany) of 2-smoke parts too. How are 1000S/ST owners being affected - probably worst of all out of this.

Count me as a "type 2" owner! :)

It is certainly a shame that it's all getting shut down. If only because I had an eye towards getting hold of a 1000 sometime... Perhaps someone in a few years time can buy the name - like wossisname did here in the UK with the Triumph marque - and have another go? Or with a bit of luck and a following wind, get hold of the factory and make bikes under a different badge? I'm sure they'd soon be adopted by the various MZ clubs around the world - DKW and Simpson are well loved by the UK MZ Riders Club due to the historical relationships.

What's happening with MZ Malaysia?

Hello!

My opinion a factory have a name MZ but I think today don´t mean anything. They forgot their roots and that was the unique thing that they had. Two strokes engines are dead but they can four strokes in a new modern models of ETS 250 and models ES like Triumph new models Bonneville, Thruxton...And chinese are here!MZ will always lose the fight if its product does not have MZ personality.
