Hello!
Just a newbie introducing himself, I'm a 55-y-o nurse, a long-time MZ
fan, ready to come back to biking and looking for a TS125 or ETZ125
to be going on with. I'd really like a TS250Supa5 but I need to pass my
bike test first! Other interests include playing guitar, making model aeroplanes
and reading Science fiction. I live in the Northwest of England, I'm a father
of 4, stepfather of 5, and grandad to 5, with a 6th on the way. Just given
up nursing in hospital wards due to ill-health (bad back, made worse by a car crash!), adjusting to
life on benefits, but hoping to return to work in some other form of
nursing in the near future.
What are the main faults that show up in an old TS/ETZ125? Does anyone
know of an online buyers guide to these bikes? What's gone wrong with
YOUR old MZ? How much did it cost to fix?
Can anyone answer these questions?

Congratulations for your long family.
I owned a ETZ 125 and my opinion:
TS models have a best classic look than ETZ but don´t have upgrades like oil pump, 5 speeds or electronic ignition.
The main faults in ETZ 125 are gearbox mainshaft bearings -too smalls I think- and needle roller bearing layshaft.
Also gear selector return spring and stupid - rust and dirty - electric problems.
Very easy work in ETZ 125 engine only 3 cheap special tools and heat/cold classic system.
The 125 engines are more light -your back- than 250.
A lot of MZ parts internet shops in Germany,you can found all you need. Generally MZ 2 stroke parts are cheap.
I don´t kown well the MZ scene in England perhaps you can try in Ebay or others like this:
