Can't get it into gear, running or not clutch in or out.
I replaced the urine cup for the clutch master and bled it.

Don't worry! That piece is the same piece I discovered way back when I first got my 1000 (new)and was out with the wife on a sunday, rolling through town changing gears when it hung up in gear. Could'nt get it into next gear. Tried up and down and just banged it hard into lower gear and all was fine. Worried me a bit, then at next oil change out poured the same exaxt piece as in your photo. If you check the parts manual you will see all the components of the trans/shifter. That little "tang" is part of the shifter internals connected to the shifter shaft and I believe is more of a "stop" of some sort, than anything else. Mine broke off at less than 1000 miles. Now at over 32000 miles and never any issues. Don't worry about it. Has been discussed on the German forum.

I would look in to the possibility put forward by Iceman.. Get someone to rock the machine back and forth whilst you operate the gear selector pedal (engine off). The other possibilities are a broken gear actuator spring (not so bad as it sounds, actuator mechanism is outside the gearbox thank christ!) or a gummed together clutch, or just plain air in the system.

Will the gummed up clutch or air in the line keep it from leaving nuetral?
Most Jap bikes I've owned will go into first not running even if the clutch isn't "working".
I tried the rocking thing, also removed the rod and gave it a few good yanks and it' remained in N.

clip 30 can come loose spring 31 may break
spring 33 can break
a 1974 bmw has a spring almost the same as 31 that was known to break
and let a lever drop down and not shift
the pin wheel at 22 is similar to one in some other trans i have worked on
and it was what a lever worked against to make it shift if a spring in it broke it did not work
i think you have lost a spring at 31 33 or 26
the roller on item 25 may have came off
hope this helps i don,t think its more than bad springs
the one like # 33 i have replaced maybe a dozen times in mid 1970,s bmw 5 speeds
2 of them in my 1974 r90s # 33 may even be the same as the bmw spring

If the problem does lie with the spring that David is referring (and there is a very strong possibility that it does) to then you will find my previous posting (on this website) on the problem where the replacement sequence is outlined, including the manufacture of a special clutch drum removal tool. The spring itself can be purchased from Grahams here in UK. Be aware that the spring may not look broken but on dissasembly of the mechanism it will fall apart. You should also replace the clutch cover gasket following removal /replacing of the cover.

Sorry, I should have told you its spring No 33 in the drawing that usually breaks.

The line that spring 33 touches ,(that tab looks like the one that hangs up and breaks off) and comes out in the oil as has happened to two members.

So I pull the right cover off and clutch out to get to something on the left side of the motor?
Sounds like lotsa fun,do I need tiny hands or the ability to build miniature ships in a bottle?

Isn't this a Rotax motor?
Would an Aprilia dealer have the parts?

I have two Aprilia's and the motor's are Rotax but the MZ is made in-house.

MCN rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4.5
You have to admire MZ for building a parallel twin and making a good `un. The 1000S's 999cc motor is punchy, not too vibey and makes adequate poke
