Engine advice

Postby Garf » Thu Nov 22, 2007 11:27 am

After my recent bike/car interface experience I have been left with an engine minus its waterpump i.e just a hole in the engine casing were it should be.

The crankcase on the same side has also been slightly damaged around the same area but my brother (who has a good general engineering backgound although no longer 'on the tools' )seems to think it could be salvaged, possibly even in situ.......I dont mean with the engine stil in the frame !!

I understand that the disintigration of the waterpump housing during a crash is not uncommon, so if anybody out there has any experience of this happening what potential other problems might have been caused that I should be checking for.

I am basically trying to work out whether I should just try and get another second hand 'undamaged' motor / bottom end, keeping mine as spares, or whether I should attempt the fix and try and source a new engine case and water pump assembly.

Cheers fellas
