Air Filter

Hi guys..

I'm in the market to buy some new air filters for my ETZ 250 and ETZ 300.. There seem to be several aftermarket ones being sold and for various prices too on the main distributor I sell from..

The thing is - are ALL filters for the TS range (inc 125's) and ES range compatable with the ETZ? They seem to look identical.. Are they the same dimensions and CFM??
The 125's look like a smaller outside diameter, but the inside is the same.

No, I don't think so, but maybe someone else knows more about this. For the ETZ, I'd buy an ETZ filter.

Hi blurredman, The TS250/1 and ETZ250/300 definitely use the same filter, and I think its almost certain the 251/301 do too, but not so sure about the Saxons and ES 250. As you say the TS 125/150 would fit if only the outer diameter is different, but I wouldn't use it - don't suppose its any cheaper.

There are 4 different filters for MZ bikes:

1.The old ES 125/150 had a small round filter, about half the size of the number.2......

Good to know that the TS 250 has the same filter.. = less choice size wise.

What is choice however is the perceived 'quality'. Now, one of my bikes has a filter with a metal bracing, but the other has paper with lots of holes around the circumfrance..

I think the more commonly reprodcued ones are the ones with metal 'bbq' look around the circumfrance before the air gets to the actual filter material.

This is hence my question in regards to CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute.

Is there any? I don't know. The paper circumfrance looks like it would restrict more - but which is correct?
For my purpsoes probably doesn't matter, as said above either of my machines has the oposit type and i've had no issues.

I have seen since that Morris Minor 1100cc engine filters fit (with some trimming) and have been used for a long time with MZ's. Most of you don't know what a Morris Minor is, but the filter is thus:





Anyway. This is besides the point, but on my 251, I have had this filter installed: I am about to change it very soon, but had a cursory glance at it now as I am having some issues. It's fairly dirty, but also- I'm not entirely sure if it is MZ filter or something else??? It DOES fit very nicely however..

Numbers written on it are part number and not my scribbling. So I presume the filter came from some sort of MZ seller of parts.

Aha! Just changed my air filter on my Supa 5 - and this is the only picture on the internet showing such a filter with the solid metal construction and the big rubber gaskets. Now I fitted it in 2008 - which means I bought it anytime in the previous decade from the usual suspects or at a jumble. So my guess is that a batch of these made their way over here but were replaced in the supply chain with the orange cased ones.

Interesting. I have not seen another one of these metal caged types- they are certainly produced it seems with little requirement for cheapness (unless they pass on the extended costs onto the customer of course). I would also like to know who made these filters and whether they are available still as I was supremely impressed with their construction. There was nothing stamped anywhere on it, but if you ever find out- please let us know! At the time, I did fancy the idea of cutting it open and installing my own paper filament in and re-assembling it, but I already had filters 'on the shelf' ready to go.

It seems to me that the orange ones with the wire mesh are the current standard/production ones by any one or more company that make them. Previously it seems like the most common ones available were the ones with the paper all around the circumfrance. Obviously stocks and productions change over the years, esspecially after requirements in numbers becomes lesssened due to a vehicle becoming obscure.
