Headlamp bulbs

Hi,
I have a Skorpion from '94 with twin headlamps that give poor light. The bulbs are rated at 12v 69/55W and look like H4 types, but having just bought some uprated bulbs to replace them, it is clear they are not H4. The connectors and the fitting on the back are both smaller and I cannot find anything anywhere that look to be the same. Anyone any ideas?
Best I can come up with is the replace the whole shebang - which will be difficult and long winded.

See if you can get hold of a unit from/for a Yamaha TRX 850, it is a direct replacement with a single bulb. Much better and easy to fit. Even I managed it !

I have just ordered a TRX850 light unit from a breakers on ebay. Hope its not too much of a pig to fit.
I believe the bulbs fitted are the type E4A - the only supplier I can find was in China minimum order 10,000! Why did MZ select them?

It was reasonably straightforward. I don't remember which bulb I used, but don't remember any problems in getting one that worked. Good luck.

Got the headlight fitted and wired up and it works. However the front part of the plastic housing on the Yamaha unit has a slightly different shape, and projects further forward. As a result it does not fit the opening in the fairing.
The glass housings on the light units appear to be fitted on with spring clips, so I thought I could unclip them and swap them over. No so, they seem to be glued in place. I am now pondering whether to start cutting the fairing away to fit the light or attempt to unglue the glass housing and risk breaking the glass.

The light has now been changed and is working. I ended up grinding back the opening in the fairing with a burr and needed to remove up to half and inch in places. It doesn't seem to have weakened it significantly. The whole change has been far from straight forward and I wonder if either Yamaha or MZ have multiple light options over time.
My next project is lowering the footrests. The are on the lowest setting available still too high for comfort. I have some 10swg stainless that I am making some adapter plates from.

Made the adaptor plates and fitted the LHS OK. When I went round to fit the RHS unit it looked OK till I fitted the footrest and found that the brake pedal mechanism fouled the exhaust system. So I ordered a replacement silencer on eBay and hoped it would fit and not be too loud. After a bit of messing around I got it fitted and the noise is acceptable and not much louder that the original unit and about 10lbs lighter as well.
Now I just have too sort out the prop stand which is unstable due to a previous owner lowering the fork tubes in their clamps. I think I need to weld on about 1/2" to 1" to the foot of the prop stand.

I could do with losing 10lbs (from the weight of the bike that is!); which make/model of silencer did you get?
