Crank seals on an ES250/2

Are the crank seals on an ES250/2 replaceable without splitting the crankcase and with the engine in the frame?

If so, is it a reasonable simple job? I have done it on my Yamaha IT425 and that was pretty simple.

No.
The crancase must be split because the seals are behind the crank bearings.

Ha. That's the answer I didn't want! It will have to wait then.

I've been having the racing engine when first starting from cold, but I hope the rebore I am doing will solve that and the crank seals are not the issue.

We don't know what condition your ES is in (or how it got to you), but i've been through various issues with mine after building it up from a dismantled state. I had a racing engine and an idle that just wasn't happy after rebuilding the engine. There are many places where air may enter that need to be air tight! I had lots of leaks, indeed one was a base gasket leak! See thread my thread on my own ES250 for the inside scoop!
