I'm a lucky lucky lad. I was out earlier on my Jawa and the throttle cable broke, at the nipple end in the throttle tube. I struggled home by turning in the tickover screw on the carb.
Once safely home I realised that the throttle cable in fact operates the oil pump too. So if you're relying on adjusting the tick over screw to go faster you're not getting any oil to the engine, resulting in seizure.
Thank I thought to myself oh my God thank GOD I run this bike on premix!!!
What a life saver!
Edit: in conclusion I'd strongly recommend replacing the throttle cable every 3 years as a precaution. It's what I'll be doing from now on.
EDIT 2. just installed the new cable, fiddly one hour job, one of them annoying jobs where things go ping if let go. Blurred man honestly thinks it's a feasible job at roadside. Blimey, for you maybe!
I'd be better off with cable ties and mole grips!
