Hi guys,
After encountering my night rear lamp blowing and not providing much actual red light anyway, I'm considering converting my ETZ 251 (which I have put an ETZ250 round two bulb holder/lense on) into a twin bi-lux system. It can be easily done, and will be a good redundancy plan.
Anyone done it? I think it would be a good idea.. After all, you can't tell if your brake light doesn't work unless you physically check them, seeing as turning a bulb on and off constantly like when braking, is stressful for the bulb and is the most likely time for them to blow I consider it a fun and safe thing to do.
I am wondering however what effect this will have on the charging/lighting system. In the night, with the additional 5w filament and if the brakes are applied at a stop light, the also additional 21w would bring the generator output to an interestingly close line to drawing the maximum output that it gives if one was to have the main beam on and indicators blinking as well, unless one was to use LED bulbs to deter from this issue, but this would also solve the original problem, what with LED bulbs typically having many actual LED's on them.
I just think this would be a fun and interesting thing to do and would also see how the charging system copes. It's interesting to note that the 251 normally comes with a single bi-lux bulb in the rear lamp. It's just.. That was broken when I got the bike and I had a two bulb 250 style lamp hanging about.
