Fuel Filter/Spark Plug

Postby gellermpd » Tue Oct 02, 2012 2:32 pm

Any leads on a good fuel filter? It seems oil filters are a dime a dozen on ebay, but fuel filters are non-existent. Any other advice on where to look for parts? Also going to replace the spark plug...is there a specific gap that is good to use or should I stick with the factory setting (NGK D8EA .028"/.7mm)?

Many thanks,
Jim

fuel filter wix 33067 yes its huge
or try the lawn mower supplys at an auto store

I have the Rotax 500 on a 95 Saxon tour
i use the spark plug DPR8EA-9 ori was d8ea
runs and idles much better
this plug requires a cut down 18mm socket with a very thin wall
but the bike runs much better on it than the d8ea

mine idles at about 1500 rpm and seems to pull good from 3000 up
i seldom run faster than 65 mph on it
town use most of the time 3000 rpm to 4500 rpm
below 2500 it gets to doing the jerk jerk thing on the chain

nice running bike after it got worn in and i changed the plug

20,000km on it now = 12,427 miles
a note the stock sprocket on mine at the engine was 18 tooth
i went to 17 and it does much better in town and on the highway

Thanks David. Good to know about the plug. My Saxon Tour now has 2343 km on it, so I am wanting to make sure I have all the spares I need. Not sure if I am comfortable changing the sprocket, but I have a guy that knows these bikes/rotax engines really well. Where can I get a sprocket for my bike? Would something like that be a universal fit?

rotax.net ron wood racing
tell them what speeds you run in the DC area
the 17 tooth on mine still seems a bit large( to high)
but speed limits here 40 or less to 55mph 1 road i 77 70mph and an other us rt 50 65mph

i am very seldom on a road posted more than 55mph

Regarding the speeds, I am usually around 65-75 MPH in the morning on my way in and in stop/go traffic up to 65 mph. How hard is it to change out the sprocket? I'm pretty good mechanically with my VW, can't imagine th Rotax would be too difficult.
