Oil Light

I've noticed, sometimes when I am sitting in the DC traffic, my oil light will come on. Not the Neutral/Oil light, but the red one on the bottom. I throttle the bike and it goes off and the oil light has never come on while I am riding. There is proper oil level, soooo should I be concerned? Many thanks!

dip stick is in frame tube right behind the upper triple clamp
with bike warm give it a check with bike standing up straight
i use shell rotella T 10w40
if that level is ok
then look at idle speed this is a single but its not a thumper
i feel that it should idle at least 1200 to 1500 rpm

mine may be as high as 1800 (my rt125=1900)
but i have not had it out since dec 2007 so can not say for sure
some people set them up and Let them idle too slow

mine also does not run very good below 3000 rpm

The oil pressure light on my Silver Star behaves the same as gellermpd has described. My owner's manual says, "Die Kontrollampe für Öldruck verlöscht oberhalb der Leerlaufdrehzahl (etwa 1500 U/min)" so I don't worry about it.

The oil pressure indicator light extinguishes above the idle speed (about 1500 Rev/min)

I drained out the oil and put in Mobil 1 4T 10W-40. No issues...so far. I think I might have thinned out the oil when I put in some Lucas Oil additive. Thanks for the above input!

Lucas Oil additive

i use the above product but not in motorcycles as it may make the clutch slip
