MZ/MuZ Riders

hi,

I am from turkey. I have 2002 MZ rt-125. I have just bough and I love it. but its carburater is not good. it does not work stable. I asked for a new carburater but is costs more than 200 euro or 250 USD since there is no dealer in turkey I have to buy it from somewhere in europe. but I wonder if there is any possibility that any other bikes carburater may fit to my MZ.

does anybody know about this issue.
I would appreciate any help much.

Hi!
Why do you want to buy a new carburettor? Probably it is just an adjustment problem. Go and look for a good mechanic and have the carburettor adjusted correctly.

clean the carb
the choke or enrichment device on the front right side of carb sticks some times .....
set the fuel air mixture screw to 2 turns from seated botton middle of rear of carb best to do this off the bike it is easer to do

these bikes use very little fuel so dirty gas is some thing they dont like

ps cold weather starting don't turn throttle on use choke /enrichment lever
let run 1 min.. then ride away turning of choke as soon as it will run properley dont let it set and idle to warm up

thanx a lot for the suggestions. I am not good at mechanical works. and this is my first bike. I think I better start to learn to do it myself. because I bought this bike 2 months ago and left it to a mechanic for overall check and other stuff. the very first day after I picekd it up it started to leak gas from the carb and, as a smoker, I was in big danger.

I found somewhere a repair book for rt 125 I will start to read it...

the 125cc MZ Bikes are very strong and run very well i will
keep my rt125 till i can not make it run any more

so if you have a broblem ask questions

plan ahead on the chain sprockets i have found that here in my location
only the mz oem parts will fit so i will send you part numbers
for a list of spairs that i have used in the first 12,000 miles

is yours a rt125 or one of the other bikes

I had my carb leak gas too. Turns out there was a problem with the needle valve; the previous owner had worked on the carb, and inadvertently bent a tab of some sorts when reassembling the carb.

Also, check your fuel supply via the fuel filter. I found my petcock was mis-labeled; OFF and RES stampings were swapped.

It's a fun little bike, and the motor will become peppier as it is run in. Have fun with it!

Also, the carb is a Mikuni VM24 24mm; somewhat rare. Mikuni do make a 26mm and a 28mm that will supposedly fit, but you'll still be responsible for sourcing the rubber boot and any other pertinent parts. Plus you'll still need to rejet it anyways. And after all that, it may run worse at normal street speeds (low revs). That's a lot of money to throw at it; unless you plan on racing, I'd say to stick with the 24mm.

DAVID THOMPSON's suggestion of taking it to a mechanic to clean or rejet is the best bet.

drew: thanks a lot for the suggestions . you are right. because leakage problem was last week and I decided to go to a mechanic but I did not have time so I run the bikealthough it was not stable at the beginning. then somewhat strangely it has started to become more stable. thanx god. I will check the web site and try to solve my problem on my own.

david: thank you too for your interest as well. by the way I saw you rt's picture and mine is the same. just yellow one. I am the 3rd owner. (as I know ) and previous ones did not behave the bike well I believe. but I love it. especially its sound. it sounds like a ducati monster.
