ive came to the conclusion
although the rt is great for learning on (size weight etc) and pretty good around town, its slow as shit lol. 60 in 6th at 10k and redlining at 65!.
but, due to fiscal problems im stuck with it. oh well never mind
just thought i'd share that

my 2002 rt125 is geared 16x52 with a sx sprocket on the rear
it is maxed out at 10500 rpm at 69mph
in my area 60mph is highest posted speed except for interstate i77 and us rt 50
18,500 miles and it seemed to run its best from 6000 miles to about 16,000 miles
and is now getting tired but still works good as most roads are 50 mph or less where i go
and nothing has broke in 2 years
so i am still smiling
i have a saxon tour 500cc and a traveller 660
and other than there being able to keep up on the high speed roads
i still like the rt125 best if a rotax 500 would fit in the frame it would be a hoot !
the traveller has been a pain it always seems to have water in the gas even though i keep the tank covered
when its raining the area i live in is very humid and the plastic tank and temp. changes may be making water

one of the articles that got me most hyped when i was considering my 125sm was this
http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/ ... 18868.htmlthe guy there claims to be able to get it to 80 on the high way.
i guess i'm still in the process of 'breaking' mine in, but i sure hope i can come to that before i can hit the express ways.
i thought would not be far behind considering its the same cc engine.
maybe upgrade to SX or SM sprocket is the key

My SM red-lines on a level road at 130k/hr, that's 80mph. My RT will occasionally do that down hill, but usually will do between 70&75 on the freeway. Neither ran well until 6,000 km on the odometer. I try to not use the freeway with the 125's; I would like them to last as long as possible. So I got a '95 Skorpion Sport last month, just getting used to it.---Steve

Slow, well not particularly and it's very frugal on fuel. Drove one for four years before I took my A2 (UK 35HP max) test and now ride a TTR-250 and an XR400.
The MZ is very well built and strong and is rather heavy. It you want a faster bike for a 125 get a 2 stroke....ring...ting....ting...............
The MZ is a great 125, got more looks on that than any other bike I've had since!
