Mz etz 150 clutch sleeve

Postby Kostadinov » Tue Feb 11, 2025 1:07 am

Hi There,
I'm a newbie. Sorry for the bad English, am Bulgarian.
I have a little experience with 2 stroke engines, because I have a motorized bike and I can work on it.
But I wanted something better. Recently my father bought me a Mz etz 150, It is in bad condition maybe but that is what I wanted, to restavrate one.
Firstly I clean the carb, tank and the bike and try to start it and after a while it starts. That was good because I didn't wanted to split the engine but there was a problem with the clutch. So I decided to open the clutch lid and check it. I forget to say that the shifts wasn't good. When I opened it there was worn out parts like the speedometer gears and so on. And the engine appeared to be opened so I decided to split it.
I split the engine get new bearings and everything that was not ok. Also the crankcase has a hole in it so I welded it and finally I start the assembly. So I assembled it and put it back to the frame. But while I was assembling I had the issues with the clutch sleeve, it wasn't spin freely in the clutch big cassette, so I sanded it with the angle grinder. It starts but the clutch was not splitting. I screw the clutch bolt down to the end but again the clutch didn't work but I go out on the road and it split when turn into gear and ride for maybe ten meters. Than the clutch started to slip. I unscrew the bolt but it continues slipping. At some point the clutch didn't split good but while riding after 4k rev the slep start. I decided to open the clutch again because I was not sure about the triangle spacers. But when I opened the clutch turn into gear and hold the clutch the whole clutch drum was swaying. Also on the bottom of the case it has many shavings. I took of the clutch and the sleeve was worn down again.
My question is, is it normal the sleeve to be wider then the clutch drum so when tide down the inner drum but without the plates the outer drum can move in and out(I'm not sure but I think that this is not a problem because when tide down the plates they hold it in place.
Also is it normal the clutch drum where touches the sleeve not to be exactly round and why the sleeve worn down.
Thanks in advance. And sorry for the long text.

I'm not sure by whay you mean talking about the sleeve etc (can you explain through photos?)

Did you use new clutch plates or you kept original? Sometimes old plates which have already been slipping can do nothing but continue to slip unfortunately- and what oil did you use?

I am a bit worried about "Also on the bottom of the case it has many shavings" hopefully that is not shavings off the crank where the clutch has been spinning on the taper.

As you say pictures would be useful, I have read and re read Kostadinov's posting but finding it hard to picuture the problem.
