Fork oil/seals change

Postby nikitino » Thu Nov 06, 2008 4:22 pm

Has anyone ever changed the fork oil on a Country 500? I plan on trying to do this soon and also changing the fork seals since both shocks are leaking. But, not sure what parts to order as far as the seals go and then also not sure what weight of shock oil or how much to put in....thanx in advance for any advice on either procedure.

I asked the same question about fork oil and quantity a while back on the MZOG and here was the reply I got:

Fork oil is 230cc per leg, fork oil sae 10. You might find when braking that the 10 weight oil is like riding a pogo stick and that using 15 weight it is less prone to diving."

A friend used the recommended 230cc of 15 wt. in his Tour and reports less dive and bounce. He installed fork seals meant for a Moto Guzzi: part number 90403449, double lip fork seal, V7Sport/LM1-3/T/T3/Convert/SP1000/Cal2/etc. $8.35 ea. from here:
