MZ/MuZ Riders

Never having owned one of these beasts in the past, I wondered if anyone could answer a question.
The rear wheel on my TS250 has a minor amount of play. Having the bike on it's centre stand so that the rear wheel isn't touching the ground, If I grab the top of the tyre and wobble it back and forth, I seem to have about 2mm of play from, I suspect, the bearings.
Is this normal for one of these (as in "They all do that, mate")?

No, sounds like the rear wheel bearings are shot. However, MZ rear wheels are mounted in an unusual way, the rear axle does not pass all the way through as on a Jap bike, but screws into the cush drive. This allows you to remove the rear wheel without touching the chain, so I would try tightening it up first.

I have done it up pretty tight, so it seems you have confirmed what I thought. I'll leave it be for the moment and concentrate on the engine.
The "MZ shop" will be getting another order from me then........

as in the above post the way the wheel mounts is odd to all others i have worked on..

the right side sets the chain in place then the left side goes in ..

do check all the parts
the bearings may be bad ..but also the axle may not be all the way tight
or some one may have spacers in wrong or an extra washer added

The bearings are a standard size ( the code escapes me at the moment) and they are cheap as chips from any bearing supplier

6302 From simplybearings.co.uk the cheap unshielded bearings are £2.29 + vat with £1.50 P&P.

Now there's cheap!

I'll second that. Ive just ordered some weird and wonderful bearings from them. Not worth waiting at my local bearing factors, who always have to order 1 item in!

Get the bearings with the rubber seals fitted (6302 2rs) as these come pre greased, and reduce the need for seperate seals. Of course you can fit seals for even more protection.
To lengthen the life of your bearings never jetwash them, as this will wash the grease out, even the sealed ones.

Bearings bought, bearings fitted, wheel has no wobble.
