Warning light wiring

Postby Stuart109 » Sat Aug 18, 2012 3:52 pm

I am attempting to finish off the wiring on my 1961 RT125/3.

I have the ignition sorted and think I can figure out the head and rear lights using the wiring diagram.

I am less certain about the warning lights as someone has replaced the original connectors and lamp holders with something from a Jawa.

The neutral light looks straight forward. When in neutral, the connection is earthed, current flows through the lamp, and it comes on. But what about the red charging lamp?

I assume this is lit before the dynamo powers up and goes out once the battery is being charged, but how? How can the lamp be out when current is flowing?

I assume the logic is the same for all ignition warning lights but what is it?

Can anyone help?

Check out this website, they have a description of how the dynamo charging circuit works: http://www.sweller.co.uk/mz/mz_maindex.html, under the 6v electrics section.
