How much oil should my ETZ 125 be taking?

Postby yellowduck125 » Sun Nov 11, 2012 6:26 pm

Hi,

I was just wondering how much oil should my ETZ 125 auto-feed be taking? I have just checked and it takes about 1:33 oil to petrol. The engine works very smoothly and always starts first time regardless of the weather, but it smokes a lot.

33:1 sounds about right to me, although I must admit I don't know much about the auto lube system. If your bike is smoking all the time your crank seals could be starting to give up the ghost or it might just be that your bike is smoking the usual amount and you are worrying too much! If you have come from a 4 stroke you might be surprised at the smokiness!

I seem to recall that I worked out, from the fuel and oil consumption figures given in the manual, that it should deliver about 47:1. I remember being surprised that the oil consumption was actually higher than the recommended premix ratio of 50:1, but I don't think it was as high as 33:1.

Have you checked the oil pump cable adjustment? If you remove the pump cover on the engine, you should see a line scribed on the body of the pump, and one on the semicircular bit the cable attaches to. With the engine running at a fast idle, the two should be lined up.

I don't actually know how much oil my 250 is using. I'm sad enough to have a fuel consumption spreadsheet on my phone, so I ought to include oil consumption as well really!

Oil pump adjustment. with the engine at idle, Ie.. running just fast enough that the charge lamp is off and not flickering, that should be about 1200 RPM, the scribed lines in both the cable control quadrant and the pump mounting boss behind it should be lined up. If the engine is idling too fast, say 1500 + rpm then the pump will under oil a little depending how fast. what I do is set the cable to line up with the engine stopped, start her and bring the idle rpm down so the charge light is on and not flickering (usually about the 1000-1200 rpm area)
