Good to be back ...

Postby Garf » Fri Nov 09, 2007 7:50 am

A lot has changed on the site in the three weeks I have been layed up in hospital but it s good to be back :D .

I was hit by a car which turned right accross my carriageway. He actually pulled into the side of my bike so I suppose I had a bit of good fortune not to pile straight into the side of him ! Fortunately it wasnt at very high speed, 25 to 30 MPH, but the impact was sufficient to cause a big highside as I tried to control the bike.

The result was several bruises and a shattered left ankle / lower tib and fib which have been plated and pinned together plus something called a tight rope through my ankle. I saw the xrays for the first time today and it looks a bit of a mess ...as do the wounds where the surgeons went in. I had to wait two weeks for the swelling to subside enough for them to operate :!: .

Thankfully I was wearing full leathers, back protector and high leg motocross boots and I am sure it all saved me a lot of additional pain. I dread to think what the damage might have been if I had been wearing my old race rep boots rather than the Sidi's.

To make matters even worse the bike mounted the pavement and knocked over a lady who was walking her dog, breaking her leg as well. I think that is what has bothered me most about the whole episode. I choose to ride a bike and accept the risks of doing so but she was just out for a stoll.

The bike isnt too badly damaged except for a chunk out of right hand engine case / crank case which in itself will probably result in it being written off. Aside from that it is just levers, pegs, indicators and exhaust (can is fine) and a few bent brackets. Even the body panels are servicable.

Anyway chaps, ride safe and watch out for Mr Magoo behind the wheel of every tin box.

Cheers

thats awful.

any long term impact of the injuries?
I don't know how insurance works in UK, so is the cager being made to take care of everyones expenses in this?

as bad as the incident sounds, I'm glad youre alright enough to write about it.

Cheers to a speedy recovery

good to hear you are OK. You are correct, we do all accept the risk, but I too would hate for someone else to get hurt.
