Chain loosening

Hey Guys,

I have a problem with the Chain slacking frequently on my MZ RT 125.

I bought the Bike in April of 2007. In July I had the Chain tightened by pulling the rear wheel back. By October/Nov it was slack again, so in November I had the whole thing replaced and tightened.....however, it's now January and the chain is loose again.

What am I doing wrong? I do about 20 to 40 miles a week on average - I didn't Lube the chain properly between it being replaced and it slacking this time around, but I've read in some places that you need to do about 500 miles per Chain Lube, and I definitely ain't done that since it was replaced; I've done between 200 to 300.

has anyone got any ideas why this could be? Is it just cos I ain't lubing enough? Could it be due to riding style in some way?

i usually adjust mine about every 500 miles
make sure you TQ the AXEL NUT to spec
100 newton meter = 73.75 pound foot from parts book published in 2001

Also, make sure that the rear wheel is correctly aligned, i had the AA come out to re attach my chain when it came off on a day of hard riding, and they never measure the turns off the nut on the end. Make sure its exactly the same ammount of turns on each side. This caused my chain to wear on one side. I tighten my chain on a fortnightly basis at the moment, waiting for chain + sprockets to be delivered from germany via somerse.

My origional equipment chain needed constant adjusting. Purchased a Krol chain with a high tensile strength, and it has not needed adjustment in 1000 miles.

rear sprocket should run true to the chain
not all will agree with this till they roll a nicely adjusted one off and it puts them down

yes rear wheel should line up with front ....but this is the real world and most often they do not...

Hello!

Bad quality chain is like a nightmare.

Always, always oil in chain after ride in a rain day.

Chain cover is not " modern estethic" but is the best for chain (kit) long life. I don´t write you the kilometer of my MZ ETZ transmision kit, you can think I am a liar!
