Main beam flash/daytime headlamps on 1000S

Postby zedhead » Sat Jan 26, 2008 1:11 pm

Hello again chaps......I figured out how to disable the pesky and irritating daytime riding lamps thingy (if I want the lights on during daytime I'LL turn them on, damn it!) by simply removing relay 1 from the box under the rider's seat. Now the lights are under MY control.....apart from the main beam headlamp flash, which now doesn't work (but it's a small price to pay!). Is there a simple wiring fix for this? In Germany, a friend's 1000S doesn't have daytime lights but DOES have headlamp flash.

If you remove the relay will it affect anything else apart from no main beam flash?

Hi again, all that seems to have happened when I removed the relay is that there are no longer any compulsory daytime lamps, but the main beam flash is disabled. I've looked at the wiring diagram and it makes sense that this is what should have happened, but I just wondered if there was a simple jumper wire-type standard factory fix, as I was told that the bikes in Germany don't have daytime lights (but I'm assuming that they have working main beam flash). Otherwise I'll have to start poking around the wiring harness to look for a good place to put in a bypass wire to restore the flash. Naturally, I'd prefer to discover how the 'professionals' (i.e. the MZ factory) do it!

Nice to know that someone else doesn't want to ride with the lights on all the time. If you're driving a car you notice that when a bike hits a bump with its dipped headlight on it appears as if it's flashing at the motorist in front, i.e car driver pulls out of junction because they think biker has flashed them to move out. Personally if i want lights on i want to have a say on whether they are on or not. I think they are far more effective if used with discretion in daylight hours.

The other problem I've got with permanent lights is when locking the bike up for the night. It's like an advert as to where it's garaged as i drive up the lane, stop to open the doors and all the time the bloody lights are lighting me up like a bloody christmas tree.
