inlet port diameters different left and right?

Good evening to one and all.. I'm new to this board . I've had a Skorpion for the last 18 months - bought off a friend on the Isle of Man. (I was looking at getting a 350cc Supergoose at the time but he convinced me the Skorp was what I really needed!)

I did a cosmetic rebuild and got the bike looking and running well.

One question which I have concerns the inlet tracts. Are they of different diameters? Because the std carbs look to have different bores. I presume two of the inlet valves go into one port and the remaning one into the other port?)

What happens when say kehin or mikunis are fitted?

Do these carbs not have identical bores?

If so - how is the change in diameter accomodated?

Hello and welcome....

Yes indeed the bore sizes are different. The stock carb works by using the capacity of the bigger bore side at higher revs/more throttle. When fitting Keihins you use adaptors to fit the inlet rubbers on the cylinder head. It's nothing major and an easy solution is readily available via various people on here. If you decide to do this modification we can help provide detailed application guides and even the neccessary parts required. Fret not, your in safe hands here...

Yep - I thought the bores looked different...

Is it normal to use the existing manifolds (they look like hard black plastic on the Skorp - one to each side / carb) when fitting the new carbs or is it a completely new manifold/adapter which needs to be made up?

At some point in time I plan to do some mild tuning and to lighten the frame/wheels if I can.

But first I need to get another bike as there is nothing worse than a project bike off the road and nothing to go riding on.. maybe another Muz?

You just reshape the rubbers when porting the head and use correct OD connection from carb to fit inside ID of rubbers...if that makes sense!

in fact.... (sounds of gears whirring - ) .... if I got jetting prepped and about right to start with - and the correct cabling lengths etc. then it looks like it could be a reasonable job. Not too bad. Hmmm..
