hey bob, it's comforting to know you're enjoying every minute on the ride.
I just cannot wait to get my hands on the 125SM man.

I'm going back to my hometown (kelantan) on March 19th.
Hopefully if there's no complications getting the bike and loan approved I plan to take a trip across country (around 350-400KMs).
I always wanted to do this and knowing that the fuel consumption can afford me 200KM on one full tank is just great.

I'll probably pack minimal, and put my luggage with my brother's car anyway,
and definitely anticipating a lot of stops since all reviews say the seat is not for long distance.

bob, I'll look around for the bike's part and maybe check out that shop that steven recommended.
If anything I probably can ship you the items you need, I work as a film crew so sometimes when I have no shoot,
I just go to office and am quite free after lunch time.

man I hope mxsteven & janraafi would come back and give us guidance :)

You should be able to get loads more KMs to a full tank, most i've had to date 404KM (all on road)
Would be interested to know what other people out there get.
It's all true about the seat - great bike, it's the only thing that lets it down.
Have a good trip.

well.. the seat is not designed for long distance anyway. after one hour or so, you have to stop. what i did was standing for a few minutes while riding the bikes. it helps and cuts your stopover quite a bit.Pojam, have you got your bikes yet ?

i go to a rally each year on my rt125 and its about 400km 1 way
and i have rode it in 5 hours but 6 or 7hours is what happens most often
about 160 to 180 miles on full tank but i think it is a bit bigger then sm sx
runs best at 90kph 100kph and up can be hard on motor 105kph is about 9600rpm

motor is tight when new so do not expect much top speed till 4000km is past

most of my riding is done to and from work, lots of 30mph but with long section at nearly flat out (try not to take it to the max that often). Goes well 55-60mph (100km/h) fastest speed just shy of 70mph (110km/h) standard SM. 15,000km in just over 2 years

Hey all and thanks for the encouraging responce.

bob, I just got a call today from Aeon Credit service, so I'm think it's going to be a few more days.

dave, i thought about that as well and must be keeping my speed around 80-90 km/h.
however since this bike have no kickstarter, what precautions (and spare parts) should I carry along?
I shall be riding around 60-70 kms of just straight roads, no workshop in sight.

Hmm, one stop per hour, that should make it around 7-8 stops man.
I think I might need to crash at a resthouse or something along the way.

Anyway will update you bob once i got it.
At the time being just daily commuting with my moskito, and also occasionally an old proton saga.

Cheers everyone!

Pojam,
the starter is the last thing you wants to get worried during a trip. Trust me, it's reliable as it can be. What you should worry about is your wheels. Since your wheels run on a tyre with tube. Yes, tube's. You should carry a spare tubes with you. Just in case, a flat tyre in a middle of nowhere. Well, i hope to see another mz riders soon. Godspeed pojam!!

sad news, the 125 sm deal is no go.

the shop called me again saying that they gave me an outdated price.
current price is RM10080 (cash) and loan would make it around RM13k (3 years),
so I said I don't want to borrow so much and for so long.

really am frustrated as I was looking forward for the trip.
guess for now I'll just look around for a used one.

:(

Dear Pojam

i think u better try another shop as what u have elaborate on the price is very much high.....if u are in klang area,u can try Wah Motor at 33430963....they offer a cash rate at Rm8.5 & installment at RM 9.1(not include of interest)....may be there is a new price,i not sure coa i bought it in 2006 dec.

Hope this can help
The fun of using MZ125SM is that u can get away in the traffic (provided your bike is manage to slot in those narrow lanes),

Dear Pojam

Since u have love this bike so much,...just some tips to share wt u what i have going thru wt my bike....
Looking at the problem tha i m facing since 1yr 4mth wt d bike,...something u need to take note were :-

1) the water pump(inside the engine)...it leaks according to my tripmeter at 35,400km of travelling,...i m not sure if
other rider going thru this.....the solution, either repalce 2 nos of o-ring cost RM80++or get the water pump change
ar RM400....
2) starter motor.....what the problem was,it didn't have enough strenght to turn the engine on....so i go to the workshop
and get it service,...problem persist, later i change the carbon(replace with Modenas Jaguh carbon, cost Rm18)....it works
well now...according to the mechanic it could be the wiring problem too that supply insufficient electric current to the
starter....but anyhow since my carbon change,...it work fine now.....

Can u imagine the pain of pushing start the bike everytime u start in the morning, evening, stop for fuelling & so on....

3) Water leaking thru the hose clip,....it's wise to change all those existing hose clip to screw type....save ur nitemare.

Summary :- It seems since Hong Leong Yamaha taken this MZ125SM & SX model from Germany,....they manage fit in plenty of locally made parts which proven to be not last long & low quality.....imagine the whole cover set now cost only RM 180.I really don't mind if some of least important part were locally made, but not to those important ones....For god sake, please give us those vital genuine part genuinely....

In reality the price of this new bike has been lowered for few reason:-

1)Competition with other manufacturer.
2)Since they have lower down to compete, inorder to maintain the profit, they has to cut cost liltle bit here & there....
i m sure u understand what i mean.

Lastly, i do wish some other rider could clarify the reality ,which what i m going thru can be differ to other riders.

hi all,
have not been to this forum for almost 2 years. I got my 125 sx in 2006. At first was really into it, but other hobby (mtb dh) and life gets in the way.. :-D

Well here is my experience with the bike.. I use it mostly for commuting to work and once in a while for some dirt riding fun..

1) know where to get your tubes and tyres, since not many shops carry this and most mechanics that you see their number by the roads "tukar tiub motor 24 hrs" don't have the spares
2) cover your choke twister from water. I use bicycle tube to cover the twister. I used to have to push the bike almost every morning during the rainy season since the bike won't start. The culprits were water in the carburetor and sticky choke cable. It seems that water trickle through the choke cable into the carburetor. So rain water were accumulating inside the carb and I used I had to take the bike to mz service centre every few weeks then. since I learn the trick, never have to push the bike yet, and never need to drain water from the carb anymore.
3) have spare clutch cable set with. In the past 2 and a half year, I had to replace the cable 3 times and the cable is hard to get from other shops besides mz dealer and agent. also make sure to grease the contact point of the cable with the clutch lever and the slot at the clutch
4) my fork seal broken last week and oil are everywhere now. The replacement would cost around RM90+ each. My rear shock had also died. I think there is no sort of damper anymore there. Replacement would cost RM500+. Any other suggestions for this by the way?

Other than that no other problem. The bike is fun to ride. The handle bar is high enough to generally past between 2 sedans without knocking their side mirror. But I hate myvis, mpvs and suvs, their side mirror is the same level of the handle bar :-D .

On the lookout for shock and seal now... have fun

Dear Mareno

Recently i have this starter motor problem,it is like very hard to start, after a day long which i didn't started the bike at all.The sound of the starter motor is like not enough power to kick the crank,...therefore it couldn't start at all unless with a push start.

Therefore i get i the carbon & battery change at the same time suspected it could be those "stuff"giving problems,it just goood for few days but later the problem resurface.

These lately,my regular shop mechanic told me it was the rectifier which causes the battery charging very slowly & advise also not to switch on lights when riding. Besides the genuine rectifier of MZ can i replace itr with other makes?

Seeking for assistance.

Hi Kim,
Just came back from a ride in KL. Nice to be able to just roam there when there is not many cars around.
Sorry to say that I can't help you with the rectifier. My not able to start problem was almost same like yours but due to different problem. I had to change the battery too last year but due to my own fault. I let the acid run dry in the wet battery. Now I change to dry type. Have you check the carburetor and the choke line. Maybe the cause is similar like mine. If you see the choke cable that goes into the carb has those white-greenish deposit that maybe the cause. If not, maybe other can help you.

Dear Mareno

TQ for your advise,...probably mine issues were differs fr.urs.

I had mine choke line open up last week to check on the status(norm there's presence of water inside the choke cyclinder)...I had it spray with WD40 & wipe dry so far not creating much effect.

It seems u didn't encounter much issues on ur bike, according to MZ service centre mechanic, plenty of MZ havin minor & major issues like leaking to the water pump, which i m encountering now.(where water drip out from the drain hole)....

I m looking into other bikes rectifier which probably the similar rating rectifier to install to mine ,as MZ's rectifier cost RM 300 bucks for the genuine Made in Slovenia.
