Cold Starting MZ

Postby seb414 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 8:41 am

Hi have just entered the world of MZ Motorbikes and I hope that someone out there might be able to help. The bike is a 2004 SX125.

1.How do you get it started on a cold morning? It sort of catches but then cuts out with any throttle. The choke just seems to make things worse. I ran the battery flat and probably flooded it….

2.Anyone ever experienced this? This morning I turned it over a couple of times and then all the light went out…I Waited a couple of minutes and they came back on again. It Happened again and I wiggled the battery. Lights came on again….Coincidence? not sure……Seems fine now….Except it wont start….

3.Is it normal for the engine to vibrate so much on high revs or top speed? I read a review somewhere that it’s supposed to be very smooth…..

With all this I still think it’s a really cool way to get to work. I love it already even though I had to leave it at home today…..

Cheers……

how cold is cold in your area ....

my rt125 gets very upset if you give it any throttle when starting it cold even on warm days

let is warm a bit then try to roll the throttle on bbut keep in mind that the book says start it and ride away

i use 2 batterys on mine 1 to crank and one on the bike
these bikes run very lean and also are hard to start if they set unused for a couple days
you just have to play with it.. each one seems to be a bit different

Hi many thanks for your reply. I live in London so its not that cold. I recharged the battery tried to start with no throttle and after a few goes i fed in a little choke. When i was able to rev without it cutting out it was fine. So your advise about not reving the engine when you first turn the engine over is priceless. Cheers.... Any feedback on the other nooby questions would be great........ta v much
