back for a second try

Postby old paul » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:35 pm

My first MZ, a Mastiff, wound up being donated to that guy I used to yell at about homework and messy rooms. Missed the old thing, hopping along the highway, squirming around on the little board they called a seat, looking for unsuspecting sport bike riders.

Just picked up a '97 Skorpion Traveller. This thing is really going to be fun, even for an old guy. Looking forward to hanging out on the 660 section again.

Howdy, from one old guy to another. I'm thinking about buying one myself, and riding it home to Texas from Anchorage. (See post VStrom -vs- Traveller.) The only issue is whether my back will survive. I haven't sat on a Traveller since they became extinct, and that was years ago. I've never ridden one.

So how does your new toy feel on the road? Is the riding position vertical enough for old pharts? Have you done any several hour rides on it yet? Would YOU do such a silly thing?

Revill, sorry I didn't see your post for so long. Hard to say if this would be a good choice. At 65, (6'0") it fits me just right. Longest day so far has only been 200 miles, and was no problem. It certainly would not be as comfortable as a VStrom, but the fun factor is amazing on this thing. If you have been accustomed to riding without much wind protection, you'll feel right at home. It is perfectly happy at 70mph, returning mid 40s fuel mileage using 87 octane. The quality of the machine is very high and the brakes are amazing; much better than the Multistrada I think. It is light enough to be easy to wrestle in a hotel parking lot after a long day. Perry's in Ft Worth are masters on the MZ.

Howdy from another Austin area MZ'er. I am of the older school persuasion, riding the Rotax 500 models. I would be interested in getting together for a weekend jaunt sometime. I am actually right off 1431 by Jonestown, and there is a lot of good riding out our way. Get in touch once you are back home with the bike.

Best regards,

Jim
