MZ OF NORTH AMERICA NAMES JOHN R. STODDART GENERAL MANAGER
MZ Motorrad of North America, importer for one of Germany’s oldest motorcycle manufacturers announced the appointment of John Stoddart as General Manager. With over 20 years of experience in the European motorcycle industry, Stoddart began his career as an apprentice at a Moto Guzzi, BMW, Laverda, Moto Morini dealer and by the age of 16 was a certified BMW Technician.
After working towards managerial duties and investing as a dealership owner, Stoddart joined Moto Guzzi North America in the mid-90s. Earning the National sales and dealer development manager position, Stoddart helped MGNA achieve record sales numbers in 2003. Positioned under MZ’s R. Vasuthewan, he leads an accomplished team that includes Controller Sue Mason, who has been with the US Importer since its inception.
Over 80 years old, MZ is counting on its rich heritage in racing (22 six-day and numerous roadracing championships that includes the legendary Mike Hailwood) and lofty production figures (2-million motorcycles manufactured between 1949 and 1983) to attain its goal of becoming a major manufacturing force by 2006.
Coinciding with the release of their much anticipated twin cylinder 1000S superbike, Stoddart arrives at a critical juncture for the Malaysian Hong Leong subsidiary. “We feel the 1000S will define us as a company. We’ll deliver performance, style, and innovation backed by the German build quality so cherished in the marketplace.” MZ’s modern line includes mopeds, street, sport, and Motard-style machines in a variety of displacements.
