insurance!!!

Postby rodge70 » Mon Apr 28, 2008 11:29 am

well the 125 passed the mot today with no problems,i insured it on saturday.now i have added it to my policy for my baghira as when that was taken out i was told i could have up to 3 bikes on the policy,so paid my £25.00 admin fee, there abouts, but because the bike is an sm and i have fitted 18"/21" rims i have to pay a further £20.00 for the modification  and should i claim then they will base it on original wheels only :? .and explaining the fact they make a simaler model with the larger wheels cut no ice either. :?
my baghira came with two sets of wheels so wonder where i stand with that should the need arise, :?

Hello,

I am probably a bit paranoid, but I would suggest you explain clearly to your broker/underwriter that you bike has two set of wheels, and that are both valid for that model. A letter (verba volant...) should be enough, especially if you ask for a written confirmation that they received it and made the necessary amendments.
I don't intend to scare you but the last thign you want is to have to make a claim and see it refused because your bike was wearing tyres/wheels of an unapproved size. Insurance companies being what they are, this could fall under the "is the bike being modified in any way" clause, and they could use it as an excuse to reduce your payout.
Bottom line: tell them everything, make sure they put a written note on your documents, and then enjoy your bike.

Ride Safe,

checked with insurers regarding baggy wheels and as bike came with both sets then not a problem as not classed as a aftermarket modification, some good news then.
