I just recently bought an 02 supermoto for 2k. Completely stock but in desperate need of some more horsepower!! I would be interested in hearing about performance upgrades and if any dirtbike plastics will fit. I have only ridden it a couple hundred miles and it is a blast to carve up the twisties. I can tell that it is pretty heavy and desperately needs more power. Anybody ever ride on U.S. 129 (tail of the dragon)? If you're ever in Tennessee or Western North Carolina, you must check it out!!! It is supermoto heaven with 318 curves in only 11 miles.

Found browsing the threads and doing some searches brought up a lot of information for me, not that knowledgeable myself. Wish there was a road like that here with so many bends... sounds great fun!

A quick browse of the "660" forum will give you literally dozens of ideas for performance upgrades. Here are the ones I've done so far:

1. Performance headers (i.e., larger diameter)

2. Aftermarket exhaust cannister (mine's a Holeshot, but there are lots of others used by members)

3. Carb kit from tunebike.de (a great tuner of MZs in Germany)

4. Drop two teeth from rear sprocket (sacrificed unused low end for more comfortable highway performance)

All of those have added up to a nice seat-of-the-pants power improvement, although my bike's not been dyno'd at any point. My next desired upgrade is to ditch the stock carb altogether and go with Keihin FCRs. And, of course, taking as much weight off the bike as you can (accessory bars, etc.) will improve your net power.

BTW, I've never heard of any other manufacturer's plastic that will fit the Baggy. MZ had it custom made by Acerbis.

Hey Harvs, I rode US129 back in March. Great road, and it was raining that day so there weren't too many folks out. As great as that road is, the roads in the surrounding area are really just as much fun. An Acerbis front SM fender will fit the Baggy, but it comes with no holes drilled, so you'll have to do that part yourself. The radiator shrouds and tank could theoretically be replaced by earlier KTM adventure items, but you have to reroute the radiator hoses and it's not really worth it. The front fairing from an older KTM adventure would fit too, after you get the hard-to-find 6 gallon tank, but again, it's generally not worth it. In terms of cheap-ish, quick mods, I'd recommend an M4 slip-on muffler and a little re-jetting. M4 was, as far as I can tell, the only company to bring an MZ pipe to the US, and they're quite good quality. You can always order performance headers from over-seas, and there are lots of carb swaps you can do. There are numerous Raptor tuners who can fiddle with the cylinder head and cam, if you're looking for that.
Just about any motorcycle parts dealer should be able to order you some new sprockets. Just tell them it's for a Yamaha XT600 and they'll know what to do. You should probably stick with a 15 out front, but if you want more pick-up, you can get a 45 (or 47, if you're a bit nutty) tooth rear sprocket. If you want more relaxed cruising, you can get a 41 or 42. Hell, you can theoretically get anything from a 36t to a 50t rear sprocket. JT, Renthal, and some others make some decent sprockets for our bikes. If you really get obsessed with lightening things up, you can get an aluminum rear sprocket, but the MZ will chew it up within 5000 miles.
