MZ1000S

Postby stinkfeet2000 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 8:09 am

New member. Was online the other night for the first time and got a pat on the back frim Iceman. All the correspondence concerning the MZ1000S is two or three years old. I live in the states and there are only about 30 of them here. I'm ready for a valve adjustment but don't have a clue as to where to get the shims. I have the Grahamsmotorcycles.com address. But upon checking their web site it looked like they didn't stock very many parts for the 1000S and were asking exorbiant prices for what they had. I'm going to try to contact someone in their customer service dept. I've been in touch with Jens at us-customerservice@muz.de I was a little long winded in my last e-mail to him. he hasn't written back as he usually does(two to three days) This MZ ownership is getting a little too much for me. I love the bike and have put 22,000 miles on it . If I can't maintain it (valve adjustment) I don't know what the use of keeping it is. Can't sell it either. I owe way more $$ than I could get for it on e-bay. Anyone out there that owns a 1000S from the U.S. have any feedback/help in this situation? Thanks

Don't have a 1000s but have the sf model here in the uk. I'd be interested how you get on getting shims for the valve adjustment as i'd like to do my own servicing Although grahams does not have many items on their website they do have more stock.
Everything is about twice the price in the uk compared to the states:smt006

Tom, I have gotten myself into quite a panty wad over the valve adjustment issue. My 1000s has 23,000 miles on it. There is a guy named Jens with MZ customer support in Germany (j.koerner@muz.de) He just e-mailed me with a guys name in Florida,U.S.A. close to where I live that can do the valves. But this won't help you, obviously. Jens is supposed to be the man.

Dam,good to know they still have customer support. Stinky i bet Ducati shims would work, they work on Aprilias for the few guys who needed them and then did they as what feels like it,s ok to you at xx01 might feel just right to someone else.

Make sure the motor is cold when they do them as heat contracts and will make the valves seem loose when in fact if the motor were cold they would be right on.

Lets see the machine,pictures

is it black ?

Just to make sure everyone is clear on the valve setup on these things, the 1000 only uses buckets, no shims. They will be an MZ specific piece. You make adjustments swapping out to differnt thickness buckets, so there will be more work involved in removing the buckets: cams are raised up/removed so as to get to them.
