saxon to etz engine swap

Postby saxonetz » Sun Jun 22, 2008 1:29 pm

Hello, i'm new to this sight ( only found it a couple of weeks ago), my son has an ETZ125, i have a delapidated Saxon125 with good engine and a good etz 125 with a not so clapped out(main bearings) engine, will the Saxon go onto the ETZ frame with no hidden problems? with regards following Mr Haynes direction.Whilst i sort the other unit out, thanks for reading, Vin :o

Hello Vin!

Firstly, I never swap engine Saxon to ETZ.
Same crankcase, I think compatible frame. MZ factory try again with ETZ engine and "build" Saxon. I ride it years ago , obsolete in first 90 with a pile of ugly plastic :? .
Differences: ETZ mechanic count revolutions, Saxon electronic (no hole in crankcase). Saxon electronic ignition PVL, ETZ points or electronic ignition ESE models.

Best regards, Manuel.
The answer is blowin' in the wind...no wind no answer :(

Como ha dicho Manumensa; the mechanical parts of the engine are pretty much identical, the Saxon electrics are a development from the earlier bike. As the clocks are different it would be easiest to fit the points ignition and the earlier stator to the Saxon engine. Technically they are both ETZs but everyone should understand which one is which. You could upgrade the electrical system but you'd need to change a lot of parts.

Have fun

Hello, thanks to both of you for the info (Louis,Manuel) , its a bit of a Catch22, the electronics part i did'nt think would be a problem, i'm not that concerned about a Tacho, i don't think its a legal issue with regards Mot, would all the bits off the ETZ fit on the Sax frame, lights etc, i suppose i could wait around for an engine to come up for sale on e-bay, perhaps a 150cc. I'm not that bothered either way, the parts i've ordered arrived the other(Burwins) day and duly fitted, the previouse owner reckoned it was the small end bearing that was making the noise, i'll find out soon when i put the barrel and head back on in the next spare few hours of the day i have, but i think you know when a main bearing has gone, i'll keep you informed of the results, cheers lads, Vin :?
