"Save MZ" campaign?

Postby zedhead » Thu Jul 03, 2008 3:34 pm

Hello all,
just a quick one - does anyone know of a "Save MZ" campaign? I'd certainly be interested in becoming involved!

Good night

Unfortunately this is not like forming a group to save an historic oak tree from the bulldozer or something similar. Enthusiasm for the marque is meaningless. Put together several hundred million of your favorite currency and it's a done deal.
Motorcycling used to be my second favorite thing, but now that I've become an old man, it's moved up a notch.

So the MZ factory is closing.Lets not get all uptight and concerned about where we we are going to access parts etc. While we have user groups such as this and people with enthusiasum for bikes there will always be some way of achieving a solution. Other factorys have closed before and that hasn't stopped the sourcing of parts for a lot of the now classic motorcycles. Look at as the beginning of a new classic. There is always a way, while we have people with engineering skills to solve the problem, somebody had to make the parts, and there are still plenty of us who can. Do what I have done put together a stock of the common breakable and servicing parts,(e.g.-cables,levers,brackets,air filters, instruments, lights) and then think about about how we can then help each other, we already have a fairly good list of alternative parts on the website so we need to make it bigger and better.

What worries me is the amount of equipment on modern machines that cannot be replicated easily, ie Engine management software and valve buckets/shims etc.

Spoke to a German friend a few days ago, there are rumours that since the dilemma had been made more public there are a few new potential buyers showing more of an interest. Would be nice if something comes of this... keeping my fingers crossed. I've asked her to translate the information for me so I can post it up.
