Newbie help questions, Skorpion Tour for sale, USA

Postby tomek322 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 5:58 pm

There is a Skorpion Tour for sale locally, New York, NY. I really like the way the bike looks, and want to buy it.

I read the sticky at the top, but the last post is 2 years old. So i'm just looking for affirmation. It's a private owner sale. I haven't owned a bike before so I'm a bit hesitant. Are part readily available? I gather that the engine and chain components can be had from yamaha, so that shouldn't be an issue. What about the inevitable blinker mirror replacement? Is there a mechanic in the NY area that I can bring for service? Or if I buy this I will need to learn to change oil(I will most likely do this on my own any way) and adjust valve(this has me scared) on my own.

Is the bike reliable? Is it a good beginner bike or is it too powerful? How is the insurance? As this is the first bike I would buy, is there something I should be looking for? I know this is a broad question but any help is appreciated.

Hi and welcome.
If the bike is in good shape and runs well with decent miles<low> well then if the price is good ,then i say go for it ! :D

The bike IS reliable? It IS a good beginner bike, is NOT too powerful? How is the insurance? Should be low insurance. But then again you are in NY. :D

Take it to a Yamaha shop and pay them to look it over for you they should charge $50 or have someone you trust and knows bikes well with you.
Expect tires battery, check the date code on the tires to make sure they are not 6 years old even if they look good tread wise with age comes cracks in the sidewalls.Tires and battery around $300/$375
You're just left with yourself all the time, whatever you do anyway. You've got to get down to your own God in your own temple. It's all down to you, mate.
