security cycle alarms

i'm currently shopping for a cycle alarm for my 125sm,
so far local dealerships have pretty scal selection, so i wondered what my mz buddies might have to say on the topic..

i would like something loud, and effective,
a remote de/activation would be a plus,
an sms notification would be an een bigger plus.

is it even reasonable for this small bike with its small battery?
any input is much appreciated.

I would not waste my time with an alarm. You said you live in the city correct? Everyone ignores them. I like to hide a kill switch on my bikes. One that lets them start the bike but does not let them ride it. I rig them to the keystand switch. This way if they get it started they will think it has a problem and maybe not look for a switch. As far as them hoisting the bike in a van, by the time you hear the alram it is in the van and so muted they ae gone.

good point..

though if silent, my bike can simply be carried off by 3-4 large dudes and noone will be paying atention, regardles of disk locks, and kill switches.
but if the thing is going off as its being carried into a van, chances are someone might pay a little more attention.

kill switch is definitely a good approach to 'immobilizing' the thing,
but i think an attention drawing noise maker would be a good suppliment too.

on her FJ... and i have a gorilla noise-maker on my gixxer. The Cheetah is a much better alarm-system, and it includes an option for disabling the ignition-circuit as well as including an aux input for a ground-switch to protect add-on accessories (which isn't really useful except for hard bags and similar items).

The Cheetah is also less than half the cost of the gorilla - yeah it won't stop anyone who's serious about carting the bike off, but for under $40 it will keep the snot-nosed brats out of my tailbag while I'm parked in front of the burger-doodle.

I plan on adding a Cheetah alarm to my baghira right after I get the dual-stars on it

... an alarm doesn't seem like such a frivolous idea after all.

I had a bike stolen last spring, and it was a major pain in the butt even tho I got it back in 3 days. I still had to clean it up and have it checked by the dealer, and pay the deductible.

So has anyone actually installed an alarm onto a Baghira?
