Nailed by Taxi--hit n run--need plastic, can *anyone* help??

A taxi pulled a hit & run on me in seattle last night--cab ran a stopsign, i tagged his rear fender as he went by, he never even stopped, just left me laying in the street and hauled ass out of there!

Need a fender, leftside tank plastic and the little upper fairing piece. That's all that got munched, lucky me. I am really sore and limping today but didn't break anything. Baggys are sure tuff bikes. The handlebars were about 30 degrees out from the wheel but i still got it going and tried to chase down the fleeing cab but no luck, he was gone. Then I stopped to straighten out the front wheel/handlebars and then was able to ride the bike back to tacoma, 30 miles. wheel & forks seem to be ok. *whew*. it'd be great if someone knows of some plastic somewhere--i saw a left tankpiece on ebay in germany (item number 7923106425) but they say they won't ship out of the country so...any MZer in germany willing to act as an agent for me and ship this way maybe? Open for suggestions, i wanna get my baggy looking right again!!

The tankpiece on ebay is not really in a good condition. He writes, he tried to spray it in black (primary color is yellow), but it's been not very successful. I hope it helps a bit!?

hey Motardina-

Sorry to hear about your bump. If you think you left a dent or mark on the cabs fender, and remember the cab company - you could potentially ID the cab, and have a lawyer drop them a "form" letter threatenin' to sue. Hit and run is felony serious stuff - they may play nice and fix your bike.

I have a guy in Germany that will send me items from German ebay if I buy them and have seller send items to him. He throws the items into a box and ships when its full. But you probbaly don't need help - it looks like a lot of MZ riders are in Germany so you should have no problem finding helpful Germans that can forward you parts!

What's wrong with just buying the parts new thru a dealer? (expense or availability or both?) - I haven't had to buy anything yet so I'm curious.

Im amazed. I just went to the http://www.ebay.de website and searched for mz, muz, mz baghira, mz mastiff and behold, all kinds of stuff for sale. The ebay.com site does not have diddly. Guys, why in the world would you go to germany for parts, when Mz has 2 warehouse in the united states full of parts ( Daytona, Jacksonville )
Do you know how much it cost to ship over seas. Then you have to pay a duty tax and god forbid it gets caught in customs. Rollin fast is a dealer in New Jersey and can get parts for you mz. Give Greg a call at 908-236-9000. Come on guys think

last fall it took 94 day for a rt125 headlamp lens
my bike looks like crap with a honda headlight installed
but i ride at night in the winter so we do what it takes

I agree with you. I think, it isn't the best way to buy parts from Germany. I think also about the possibility to get trouble, when you get bad stuff from an ebay-auctioneer. If one needs parts for old motorcycles, it is another thing but that's a current MZ.

I wonder how the factory part prices are in Germnany. Here a Baghira fairing goes for $110.00 which I think converts to 89.3 Euros. A speedometer goes for $130.00 (105.7 Euros) How does that sound to you guys in Germany? Used parts are nearly impossible to find here. I can only wonder what a Mastiff "original cockpit" (7923103060) would go for here. I want those headlights on my 04 baggy.

Don't do it... the intensity of these lights is very bad. A friend of mine rides a Mastiff and he hates this headlights.

I don't have any experiences with part prices. My Baghi '02 runs great... 26000 km without breakdown.
I found some prices on a website for new parts:

fender: 87 Euro

tank piece: 75,41 Euro

fairing: 70 Euro

speedometer: 87 Euro (old version)

Now you can compare the prices between US and Germany.

with the prices of the "self color" black panels so cheap, it may be beneficial to change over to those. You can polish them and get them pretty close to the painted finish, but i think they look pretty cool in the Mat finish they come in.

this winter I might do a complete bodywork replica in Carbon Fibre, have been working on getting some mold making stuff together, But I am going to wait until I decide if I am going to convert the bodywork to something more available like XR or DRZ.....

yikes... those prices seem crazy compared to Japanese and KTM parts. I can see why a few "innovative thinkers" are trying to convert their MZ's to other bodywork.

But keep in mind, the painted MZ parts are actually good quality and the Japanese and KTM replacements are color-integral (unpainted) which is why they are so cheap by comparison.

Color integral parts are soft and mar easily. Even the MZ satin black plastic is easily dulled and scuffed. I think satin black looks kind of cool, but black plastic looks cheap and cheesy (to me) after a few weeks in the sun. At least the painted parts can be waxed and cleaned easily and hold up well to UV.

Has anyone tried painting the unpainted MX panels using the new Krylon "molecular bond" spray-can paints (formulated to stick to bare plastic)? This might be a less expensive way to go - buy unpainted panels and spray paint them yourself.

I forgot to add , for those who dont know .. UK VAT is 17.5% so makes them even dearer!!
Unpainted is teh way to go I reckon.
