TS250 Oil Change Procedure.

Think maybe it's time to change the gearbox oil...

...in trying to locate the drain plug I consulted my old Haynes manual but I can't quite find a plug "underneath the right-hand side of the gearbox in an inclined position".

I'd be grateful for any help.

Also what oil would you recommend?

How about an 'engine flush' type product prior to the change - worth it?

Any assistance gratefully received.

a lot of the 2 smokers pre 1975 used a 30 or 40 weight non detergent oil in the box

some one in the uk speak up
the 2 smokers are so rare in my area other than a weed eater the guy next door has a lawn boy
and a boat motor

Yes Paulo, up the motorcycle in a elevator or you stoop and see two plug but only one (the big) in an inclined position (the drain plug) like said Haynes book.

The engine must be heat -Careful with the skin burn-

Oil : 750 cc. SAE 80 EP
Manual MZ said (like said Thompson) alternative oil SAE 30W40. The problem this oil generally are formulated for car engine (dry clutch), the clutch can slip in the MZ and you must be change (no enougth change for correct oil) contamitated friction disc.

Manual MZ said also chage oil every 20.000 Kms!! . Oil isn´t expensive, you can change (aprox.) every 5.000 km for long life and clean engine when you open to repair; oil for engine is like blood for us, (sorry for the obvious).

The drain plug are situated on underside of the crankcase (a bit on rear position) near footrest bar. Is a inclined (I think 17 mm) plug with magnet.

Hi Paulo, When you are changing the oil on the TS 250/1, you drain the oil from two different places. Most of the oil is in the clutch casing and you drain that by removing the bottom screw of the CLUTCH CASING screws. The rest of the oil you drain from the 22mm nut under the engine. Do NOT remove the 17mm nut as this holds in the ball bearing and spring for the neutral detent position.
The correct oil for this engine is 80W Hypoid gear oil. There are others I would recommend ie Silkolene 75W Light Gear OIl, Castrol Syntec 75W90. The capacity of the gearbox is 900cc. If you put in too much you can have problems with the oil leaking from different places.

Sorry Paulo, I was stubborn in the post title "TS 250..."

After ask "Any chance of a pic?" -1 picture better than 1000 words- I could do it but
I didn´t do it.
