WV Dual-Sport Weekend Photos (aboard my Country)

Postby MZCountryRider » Mon Oct 13, 2008 3:22 pm

Spent fours days last weekend (Oct. 3-6) riding the mountains of VA and WV with some friends. Had a great time - perfect weather, good food, (mostly) very enjoyable paved and forest roads, cheap lodging and the MZ never missed a beat. Only trouble I had the whole weekend was on one "road" with very deep ruts filled with water. One rut grabbed my front wheel and off the bike I went! No damage done to the bike, only thing hurt was my pride. 1165 kilometers (722 miles) total, averaged 58 mpg. Photos here: http://tinyurl.com/3jg2n6

Thank you for photos.

Is for me a very pleasant sensation to see this natural park, it remember me a Nino Bravo song when I was a boy "América, América"

"...when God did the Eden he thought about America..."

Saludos, Manuel.

Nice pictures,
The riding and the scenery looked great.
Nice to see big trail bikes being ridden off road, just proves they are dual sport.
Cheers Simon

nice pictures....i had a couple questions about your bike.....what acerbis model are those hand guards you have and did they fit on the stock bars without any modifications? I have the country 500 too.....i've never put on any handguards before (on any bike) and was looking for some that would be easy to install.......Also what kind of pannier/bags do you have on there? thanx

The hand guards are the Rally Brush model with add-on spoilers: http://www.acerbis.com/p106_handguard/0528.html . The left one fit no problem, the right mounting bracket (that clamps around the bar) interferes with the brake hose. I've temporarily attached the guard with a large zip-tie until I can figure out how to solve the issue. Trying to find the handguards on Dennis Kirk's website just now, I saw a few mounts that swivel. Could be the answer right there.

The luggage (combination saddlebags and tailbag) was sold by Yamaha back in the late '80s and were given to me in the early '90s by my uncle. As far as I know, they haven't been available for years. Shame, because they fit the Saxon Country (and Tour) very well. They have three main compartments and four smaller ones. Big enough for commuting, day trips or maybe an overnighter, but a bit small for a four-day weekend. I'm planning to fabricate some brackets to mount a pair of Pelican hard cases for more carrying capacity.

thanx man, let me know if you find something that works better with those handguards.....also, don't know if you would be up for making doubles of those brackets your're talking about for the pelican cases but if so, i would buy a set off you.......or maybe you could just give me a how-to after you're done and i could try to make em myself.....too bad i'm not closer to you out there, i'd like to check out your country and go for a ride sometime......
