Just picked up a MZ FunX and need some help

Hi,

I picked up an MZ 125 FunX today and I've been surfing the internet most of the afternoon looking for sites to buy parts. The bike has been modified to be street legal and has the Vapor digital cluster, blinkers, blah blah...

The front and rear sprockets are badly worn and I can't seem to find where to get new ones and I'd also like to change the size of them. If anyone can post up some links that would be great.

I just found a link to a thread that the previous owner of the bike created a while ago but I need a source for the front sprocket so help is needed...other sources for the rear would be nice as well.

Man this board moves slow.

I purchased my sprockets from a nice guy in the UK named Ian. I got a 15 tooth front and replacement 52 tooth rear. The parts came from GRAHAMS MOTORCYCLES Send Ian and email and he will be glad to help you out.

BTW the shipped price for both sprockets was about the same as the price for just the rear at Sprocket Specialists

What length do you need? It should be straightforward to find a standard replacement for this bike.

I haven't bothered to count the links but I was told there are 136 links. The most popular length seems to be a bout 130, 132, 134....after having my chain fall off today I'm going to be getting a shorter one anyhow. I also have new sprockets coming. I got a stock replacement 52t rear and went down a tooth on the front to 15t. My current plan is to figure out how many lengths I need and just go up to the Honda shop and have them slap a new chain on it...

i used a o ring 428 chain but had a local atv shop that had it in stock
he closed last month
in biz since the 1970's
just making end meet he said and time to retire
and his son found a good job elsewhere so
just lost the best shop in town

For anyone thinking of going down to 15t front sprocket on a SX or FunX and keeping the 52t rear go for it. This works great. I may even go down to a 14t front. I used a JT sprocket the part number is JTF 558.15 but you have to drill a hole into the hardened steel b/c of the look washer tab for the nut. Part numbers for a smaller sprocket is JTF 558.14 just change the last number and so on...they range from 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20

Do you have a way of knowing your top speed?...and did it make it easier to do wheelies?

I don't know what the top speed is, it dropped about 19% probably does around 50 now. As far as wheelies go I gave up wheelies and jumping about 25 years ago but if your looking for a 125 for that type of riding a 2 sroker is probably the way to go. i had to drop the front sproket from the stock 16 tooth to the 13 for a good climbing gear. All the riding here around Reno is high altitude mountain riding with a lot of steep climbs, it would bog down in first gear with the 16 tooth. The 13 tooth also makes a big difference on the steep decents holding the bike back in low gear.

lol my funx has been converted to street legal. i ride it almost every day. i desided to go down a tooth because my 6th gear made me lose speed. my max speed is 65mph in 5th gear so the 15 tooth should help me out with that. it's been raining but i'll let you guys know how it goes...

LOL just ride it in 5th gear if you want to do 65 save 6th gear for a tail wind or long downhill
