Tool kit - what is it?

I removed the onboard toolkit today and apart from the usual crap items I found what looked like a piece of tube which had been flattened and slightly crimped about a third along its length. So can anyone enlighten me as to what this is for please? I cannot believe its a handle for the spannner

It is an extension to fit on to the spanner for the axle nut.

if by "this" you mean the extension for the axle nut spanner then yes, I did try it. Last year I had to tighten the chain after a long ride. As I was in Germany, I had to rely on the toolkit. I managed, just; considering the tools I used, and the fact that I consider myself mechanically inept, it must rank as almost a miracle.
The ironic thing is that I had at home a professional extension bar with socket, which I had bought expressely for this sort of occourence.
For completeness' sake, the extension did bend a bit, and I doubt it could withstand another road-side emergency.

Thanks for the feedback. The only question now is whether I can get shot of the tool carrier plastic thingee without losing the airbox etc

I'm looking to do this sometime soon as well. The thing dangles there like a weird plastic scrotum, devoid of any purpose (as I haven't the tool roll nor the lid) and collecting dirt. I've taken the tyre hugger off my Skorpion as I prefer the naked look (ooooerr Nurse... ) and that tool holder gets in the way.

As far as I can see, it's just part of the airbox moulding that should succumb to a little careful hacksawing and some cleaning up afterwards. If it's too much of a fag, then I'm thinking of ditching the airbox altogether, fitting K&N's to the carb mouths and fabricating a simple battery carrier out of some flat 1/2" stainless bar I have in the workshop.

The Skorpion toolbox is fitted to the airbox by three screws. These are accessible through small holes in the bottom of the toolbox, and you'll need a long 3mm Allen key. Whether they'll come out easily or not is another question, when I removed mine to fit an Ohlins rear shock, I had to hacksaw through one.
