Baghira Clutch and Throttle Cables

Postby amahoser » Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:13 pm

I got clutch and throttle cables custom made at Flanders Company in Pasadena Ca for my Baghira. When they made the cables, I got them to make a spec sheet for them so they can make cables without the originals. I put them on my bike last night and they fit great.

A couple of notes:
the original clutch cable (clutch end) has a little divit on the threaded adjuster. This is used to hold the rubber dust cover. The Flanders version does not have this. I just slid the dust cover over the end of the threaded adjuster and it works the same.

The original clutch cable (lever end) has a brass cylinder that fits over the cable end. This assembly then fits in the lever. I got them to make it one piece (no brass cylinder to lose or fall off when the cable breaks).

For locals to Southern California, Flanders makes cables while you wait. For the rest, since I had them make a spec sheet, you can just call in to order them.

The prices I got 'em for:
Clutch cable - $25
Throttle cable - $20 ea... two required (they are slightly different inner cable lengths)

I don't work for Flanders and have no affiliation to them but I have been a customer for many years. Usually for custom cables and handlebars

Just thought I would post up a pic of the brake light switch from the front brake lever on my 01 panther compared to the bmw switch listed here. Picked up the bmw switch for about $12 and it works beautifully.

ur a smart guy thats a good idea cus right now i need to get fairings for my 05 baghira and would like to put a steering damper on to

So far, I know the engine is a Yamaha 660cc and all the normal service parts fit.
The front disc is a Yamaha R1/6 model -99 - are the calipers also from this bike?
The front mudguard is a KTM model, but I don't know which bike!
The Rear brake Cylinder is also a KTM but which model?

What about the clocks? Did someone say they were from a Husky?

It seems to me the only bit which you can only get from MZ is the frame!

If we all put down our words of wisdom, we could edit the whole thread at the end and create a document for easy reading - what do you think?

I'm glad this thread stuck around long enough for me to remember something I can contribute to it. Have you Baggy owners ever over-torqued those little rubber nuts in the "accessory bar" where the front two screws for the front side covers attach? Well, I have. And believe me, there's no substitute for a specialty part like that (try getting your little finger in that tube to hold a regular nut). Anyway, I found a source for them here:

http://www.desmoparts.com/ducati/wellnut/wellnut.htm

BTW, they're called "well nuts." Go figure.

That's interesting. I just took a look at their page. They've even got the dimensions of them, which is really useful.
They say they're common on many Japanese bikes for fairing mounts and so on, but that they're hard to get, usually a dealer order.
So I think I should add them to the [MZ Baghira - Tech Data, Service Specs, Alternative Parts] doc, although so far I've never included any dealer references. But this is just too rare, too useful. Try getting something like that, you'll wander around for weeks asking people  and trying to explain to them on the phone. :x
PS: They're so cheap, I feel like getting some just in case.

Hey yawl! FYI If you need a clutch cable for the Mastiff (anyway) The cable for the 01 to 04 (I think) 660 Yama Raptor will work! its 1.5" too short though! isn't that a common problem!! The eng end is fine but the lever end is a big button not the little one that fits in the brass insert. Got all the boots spring chaff, heat guards the MUZ one does but got to be rerouted to work. Much stouter too. Anyway has me back on the road till my order gets in from the UK. $12.00 + ship off the web. M Pro PN 05-0271 or if you can find what # is 2" longer from M Pro its a super will fit.

I've asked on the 125 blog so I'll ask here as well. Any chance that the valve shims on the 125's are interchangeable with some other bucket & shim config. like Honda Suz, Kaw, Yam.
I noticed a company that lists all sizes by thickness and diameter.
Just a thought as MZ no longer deals with the :US , a shame but true. Parts are like star dust around here and I want to keep this gem running.

My Skorpion Traveller uses EBC FA126 pads at the front and FA47 at the rear.

In the UK at least replace the indicator unit and use easy to get standard 21W bulbs rather than the harder to get 18W fitted as standard.

Rear light unit is the same as on some Ducatis and Buells. Just fitted an LED replacement.

Air filter is made by Filtrak part no 3900 and is exclusive to the Skorpion!!

Yamaha pattern part speedo cable 458980 fits(97cm long) if run down the front of the forks (this route looks neater than std)
or there is a 105cm pattern part 458995.
two wheels good, four wheels bad. . . .
