Heh heh heh ......... Hi Robert. Yes, my father was in the forces - but perhaps not the one you're thinking of. He was a Korvettenleutnant in the German Kriegsmarine.
I'm as German as a very German thing.
The garrison you refer to in Iserlohn was at the old Seydlitz Kaserne or, as the British called it 'Corunna Barracks', and on the main road from Iserlohn to Hemer. The last I heard it was home to 3 Armoured Div, Royal Engineers. Mind you, that was few years back - I was posted there myself.
I joined the Army to see the world (I joined the British Army because I didn't want to be conscripted as a Panzergrenadier .... and because they helped pay me through uni
) ........... and got posted home! Typical of my bloody luck.
