Can anyone identify what came out with my oil on my 1000s?

about 1/2 inch long was stuck to my oil drain bolt

anyone have a clue?

That's not good,I think it looks like the chain guide or a piece of it located behind the right cover.I'll find a link that I saw before.

I think it's a piece of what the chain rides on in the photo.Chain tensioner

I got these off the German forum,See where the threaded stock sticks out that little sheared screw in the above photo broke off,but went there.

do you think a piece of metal that size would make it to my drain plug from there? I know it can't be good, but who knows how many miles it's been there? doesnt have any mechanical noise and still pulls hard. I thought it might have something to do with the transmission. I have had a few missed shifts that resulted in a violent bang from drive chain backlash .

I was going to ask you if it's metal,you did say it stuck to your oil plug.But it looks plastic.But it also looks huge like it wouldn't make it out the hole.
If it's metal then forget about what I posted as that's plastic.Did you enlarge that picture ? How many miles on your bike ?

it will stick to drain plug if its plastic mixed with metal to improve ware resistance

Don't worry! That piece is the same piece I discovered way back when I first got my 1000 (new)and was out with the wife on a sunday, rolling through town changing gears when it hung up in gear. Could'nt get it into next gear. Tried up and down and just banged it hard into lower gear and all was fine. Worried me a bit, then at next oil change out poured the same exaxt piece as in your photo. If you check the parts manual you will see all the components of the trans/shifter. That little "tang" is part of the shifter internals connected to the shifter shaft and I believe is more of a "stop" of some sort, than anything else. Mine broke off at less than 1000 miles. Now at over 32000 miles and never any issues. Don't worry about it. Has been discussed on the German forum.

Thanks for the info it may explain a few strange (minor) gearbox problems that I have experienced in the past.

Definitely steel! well that's a relief!! i think i have about 6000 miles on the bike. havent been able to ride this year due to a hernia repair. Pot holes are not my friend if ya know what i mean.

Yip....I found the same metal piece in my oil. It's part of the gear selector. I took my bike in to a gearbox engineer and he fixed it. I also had a broken spring in the selector mechanism that Was replaced.
This looks like a problem when bike jumps a gear then these parts can become damaged. Maybe it will help if you adjust the gear change lever to a more suitable position for your foot size, making for easier gear changes and less chance of harsh gear changes.
