My new( to me) Skorpion Traveller

Postby billr » Mon May 31, 2010 4:20 pm

Well, the Tour will "run no more" as far as I have time to work on it. :(
Image
With rebuilding the home and work, I won't have the time to dedicate to a rebuild on the bike.
Still waiting on a decision from FEMA regarding replacement funds.
If they don't take it, I'll probably part out what would be usable after being "dunked".

I did find a replacement: :D

14,500 miles, runs great. Owner had it repainted to his favorite color. There's some bubbles on the tank, but you have to be close to see them. I'll eventually have it redone, but no rush.
Other than that, it's tight.
I rode it home from Rochester,New Hampshire to Nashville, TN. About 1200 miles.
Later,
Bill R.

Billr,
Have you got a close up photo of the mirrors? Do they actually work? If they do it would be great to find out where to buy a pair as the originals on mine are no good. Any chance of asking the previous owner? Thanks.

Yep, just gotta convince the wife it would be more advantageous to keep it around for a while.
On the other hand, it's kinda sad to have it sitting around neglected when it could be doing someone some good.

Hi David,
I'll check with the previous owner and ask if they are stock.
I checked online sources for images and the mirrors look to be stockers.
Here's a general pic:

Do they work?
Yes and No. I have to drop my left elbow to see directly behind me (Which is better than the raise I had to do on the Tour).
The right one is pretty much useless except for checking clearance when passing a car (and I guess that is what it is for).
Here's the pics:

These could stand to be about 30mm further out. May try some spacers in the future.

Hey Bill, Don't give up on the Tour, give it a good coat of Wd40 and wrap it up. My Sport looked worse than that after sitting out in the weather for 3 years when I bought it. As long as there is no water trapped internally it should be fine. Keep it you will kick yourself later. Anyhow "He with the most toys wins".

I did drain and oil the motor. It'll require a top-end rebuild (rust stained oil drained out) and new electrics (if I do wind up keeping it).

If nothing else, I'd like to keep it for spares, but SWMBO doesn't want the garage "stuffed with stuff" again.
And we all know "if Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

its a good idea to not get it too cluttered
if it flooded once it will be back
my dad saw the ohio river flood of 1937
and he would only live on a hill top here
he was original from wellington KS

Dave,
Believe me, that is a HOT topic in my neighborhood right now.
We've all seen the river out of the banks, but never anywhere near this much. And we know it will happen again.
Debbie has said she probably won't get much furniture downstairs if we stay in this house.

Bill, I met you at Bloodworth BMW here in Nashville one Saturday last year when you were on the Tour. I am a BMW owner with a R80ST and am a former owner of a Saxon Tour, two SRX6's and an SR500, and told you at the time that I was very interested in getting a Skorpion of some sort, maybe a Traveller or a Tour. Lost touch since then. Sorry about the flood and all your losses, but maybe you and I can work out something about the Tour. Please contact me.
