Rotax Camshafts?

while we are talking rotax
do not forget the breather hose from the top of motor to the
top of oil tank
put a fresh hose on there its a beast to do on the road
been there done that
blows oil all over the place if it starts leaking
and on the Saxon Tour you have to take all the gas out of the tank
and remove the fuel petcock spilling more gas before tank will clear and come off
best to check any time you have the tank off
best done out side due to lots of spilled fuel

this and an oil change on the rotax i think are the 2 messy jobs i have done on any bike i have owned
this bike is not very user friendly when it comes to tank removal and/or oil change

Removing the tank on a Silver Star is easy; disco the fuel line, remove the seat, remove the fuel tank bolt, then lift off the tank. Ten minutes max. But the oil change is definitely a major PITA.

I have just been removing the allen bolt going through the lower chassis down tube/oil sump and fashioned a milk jug into a drain tank. It isn't that messy anymore. Now the filter removal still makes a mess...

Cam's with a lift of 8.9mm are safe in the standard rotax 504e ie the 660 & 670 profile cams
But cams that lift 9.3 or 9.65 mm will not be safe , ie the 800 & 675, and should you break the cam belt, its bent valves or worse
